Princess Kate Shares She's Now 'Strong Enough' After Secretly Climbing UK's 3 Highest Peaks in 24 Hours
The Princess of Wales recently completed a remarkable personal challenge, climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland, and Wales within 24 hours.
It is not every day that we see a princess push their physical limits to spread awareness and raise funds for a charity cause. The Princess of Wales recently completed a remarkable personal challenge, climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland, and Wales within 24 hours to raise awareness about cancer recovery and support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Princess Kate, who revealed earlier this year that she is in remission after undergoing preventative chemotherapy for an undisclosed form of cancer, said the 23-mile hike was deeply personal and aimed to highlight the importance of holistic care for people living with and beyond cancer.
In a remarkable display of strength, resilience, and determination, Kate climbed Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis, and Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), travelling between the three peaks over the course of a day. As per royal expert Robert Jobson, on his Substack, the Princess undertook the challenge solo and was only supported along the route by Mountain Rescue teams. At the end of the final climb in Wales, she was welcomed by Prince William, their three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis — as well as her parents and brother.
The challenge, while strenuous, was special to Kate as it raised funds for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, where she received treatment. "Lots of people have asked me why I'm doing this challenge, and partly it's personal. I'm so grateful to be here, to be strong enough to walk these hills," she said in a video shared by the official Instagram page of the Prince and Princess of Wales. She continued, "But more importantly, it's to give something back and acknowledge really all the incredible work going on up and down this country."
Reflecting on her own experience, Kate said, "I've met some incredible people, those people who are living with and beyond cancer, and I know personally how difficult that journey is." She added, "I really wanted to use this opportunity as my way of contributing to all the wonderful work that's going on. And in particular, to support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, an organization very dear to me, but who do extraordinary work supporting those living with and beyond the disease."
In a message shared after the climb, she also wrote, "Cancer doesn’t just affect the body. It changes how you think and feel and profoundly affects every aspect of life. I know this personally." Commenting on her recovery, she stressed, "Healing is not just about fixing what is wrong. It is about finding balance in how we live." Jobson said the challenge carried a significance far beyond climbing three mountains. "We have watched the careful return that followed. Tonight, I think I understand a little more about what that return cost – and what she decided to do with it," he wrote.
The royal commentator also pointed to one line from Kate's message that he believes will be remembered: "Bravery isn’t just about pushing forward. It is about knowing how to stay grounded, connected, and present, no matter the terrain or landscape you are walking through."
