Prince Harry, in his recent BBC interview, made shocking claims about his family, alleging they played a direct role in him losing his UK security. Harry's allegations have rattled royal experts who suggested that his statements may have cost him an invite to his brother, Prince William's, coronation. The rift between the two brothers has deepened to the point that they have allegedly not spoken to each other in over two years.
An insider recently told Page Six that Harry’s BBC interview has completely closed all doors. The source said, “I think it’s done…I don’t think there is [any] coming back from that.” The source added, “Before the interview, we thought, ‘Come on William, extend a hand to your brother.” However, they argued, the Duke's allegations on air proved that he ‘hasn’t learned.’ Royal author, Hugo Vickers, disagrees. He stated that William should ‘theoretically’ invite his younger brother.
Comparing William’s future coronation to that of Queen Elizabeth’s in 1953, Vickers reasoned, “But quite frankly, he can do what he likes. It is not set in stone...The Duke of Windsor was not invited to [his niece Queen Elizabeth’s] coronation in 1953. There was a lot of discussion about it.” Meanwhile, Sussex insiders continue to insist that the Duke wishes to reconcile with the royal family. In the BBC interview, Harry himself said, “I would love reconciliation with my family. There's no point continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious.”
Although tensions run high, William is unlikely to strip the Sussexes of their titles. Vickers explained, “We know that William is unforgiving...But he won’t strip Harry and Meghan of their titles, it appears vindictive.” The source, too, agreed, arguing that Harry and Markle’s titles are “irrelevant and meaningless at this point,” and that “no one thinks [they] are royal anyway!” Harry, after his interview, is reportedly being 'blackballed' by his family.
A royal insider explained to Page Six that the Duke has lost his family’s trust. “I genuinely think nobody trusts him, and that’s the bottom line. The royal family has major trust issues with him, and that’s what’s at the heart of everything.” The source added, “They don’t trust him and Meghan, and that’s why they can’t have a relationship…maybe there is room to forgive, but they won’t forget. Forgiveness and trust are two different things.” Noting how every move of the royal family members ends up in the press, Vickers added, “Charles is, of course, right not to trust him. Harry is hopeless in that respect. He shouldn’t have given that interview — but none of the royal family should ever give interviews, it’s always a car crash.”
