Sarah Ferguson and scandals are almost synonymous with each other, but each time, she has crept her way back into polite society. But this time, one royal commentator believes the path back may be closed for good. The former Duchess of York has come under renewed scrutiny after her past association with Jeffrey Epstein resurfaced following the U.S. Department of Justice’s release of documents related to the late convicted financier.

The controversy deepened earlier this month when her charity shut down, with subsequent reports suggesting she had traveled overseas and told friends, “I need to get back to work, I need money.” Against that backdrop, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond has a strict assessment of Ferguson. “If it is true that she still thinks she can make some sort of comeback, she is more deluded than I thought possible,” Bond said. “Her charities have deserted her, her publishers have pulped her latest book, and almost every day brings more revelations about her fawning and prolonged friendship with the convicted paedophile, Jeffrey Epstein.”

Bond acknowledged that Ferguson, 66, has staged dramatic recoveries before. Over the years, she managed to reappear at royal gatherings—including Christmas at Sandringham—despite earlier financial scandals and tabloid embarrassments. “Ms Ferguson has made some spectacular comebacks before and has even managed to get herself back into the family fold for royal social gatherings, such as Christmas at Sandringham,” Bond said. “But to think she could come back from this latest disgrace—with her emails calling Epstein a legend and a supreme friend, even…perhaps jokingly…asking him to marry her—suggests she is away with the fairies.”

Meanwhile, speculation has surfaced that the former Duchess may be considering a high-profile, paid interview. American broadcasters are reportedly willing to offer six-figure sums for an exclusive sit-down. “Andrew has had his chance to tell the story. Now it's Fergie's time,” a source told The Sun. Bond, however, dismissed the idea that such a move would restore her standing. Speaking to The Sunday Mirror, she said, "You really don’t need a fortune to live a quiet, decent life.

“Sarah needs to cut her cloth and realise she is no longer an A, B, or even C-list celebrity. She is a woman who has been publicly disgraced….again…and this time it is worse than ever before. I cannot believe she would be so foolish as to sell her story in a book or interview," she said, adding, “But then she has never ceased to amaze me with her avarice and lust for money. I hope her daughters can instill a bit of common sense, reality, and dignity into their mother and persuade her to stay out of the limelight rather than seek it.”

In recent weeks, Ferguson has largely stayed out of public view. According to reports, she spent time in the French Alps with friends before traveling on to the United Arab Emirates. She was also understood to have joined her younger daughter, Princess Eugenie, who had professional commitments in the region, including attending an art fair in Doha, Qatar. Sources quoted by the Express claim Ferguson has been “getting her head together” as she weighs her next steps.
