Charles Allegedly Has ‘the Door Open’ for Harry This Christmas — Not Because He Fears It's His Last
King Charles may be preparing to extend a festive olive branch to his estranged son, Prince Harry, this Christmas, as family unity takes on renewed importance for the monarch. The past two years have been particularly testing, with the King balancing the weight of royal duty while undergoing cancer treatment. As tradition dictates, the royal family is expected to gather at Sandringham for the holidays, and royal experts suggest this year’s celebrations could carry deeper emotional significance.
Royal correspondent Richard Palmer previously told The Express UK that the King might seek reconnection through a more modest gesture, such as a Christmas-time Skype call. However, expectations have since broadened. Speaking to Fox News Digital, royal commentator Amanda Matta suggested the possibility of a formal invitation should not be dismissed. “I doubt an invitation for Prince Harry would be off the table entirely should the King really want to be with his birth family,” she shared. With sentiment and legacy in mind, the door to reconciliation may be gently ajar.
Matta opined that Charles has always been emotionally open to his son. "But the reality is that tensions with Prince William remain unresolved. The idea that he wants this Christmas to be ‘extra special’ makes sense — not because it’s necessarily his last, but because he’s acutely aware of time and legacy," she explained. The expert added, "For the royals, the unique blend of tradition and togetherness at Christmas acts as a reset button." This remark is all the more hard-hitting after a source told Us Weekly how the King wants to make this year's Christmas extra special.
"No one really knows the full extent of Charles’ health struggles, other than the fact that they are ongoing," added Matta. Balancing crown and kin, the King is said to be reflecting deeply on time and legacy. “Charles prioritizes duty, but he’s also a family man who knows his time is precious,” the insider told the outlet. “He wants a special last Christmas in case it’s his last.” As Matta noted, “After such a turbulent year — with family rifts, Andrew’s removal of titles, and his own ongoing treatment, now dragging into its third year — understandably, he’d want to make this Christmas feel meaningful.”
Matta also shed light on the fact that Charles' spirits have been on the rise ever since he and Princess Kate began recovering. "There’s been a clear effort by the royal family to rally around him, especially from Queen Camilla," she said. The past year has been very difficult for the royals, and now they want to start a fresh new chapter. Harry has remained largely estranged from his family since he and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped back as senior royals in 2020 and relocated to California with their kids. However, after the Duke's September visit, the Sussexes might soon reconcile with the family, especially if Harry's plea for state-funded security passes through.
