Prince Harry is fighting tooth and nail to claw back state-funded security, insisting that his wife and children should be able to set foot in his homeland without fear. But the question lingers: Does he truly deserve such privileges? Royal expert Richard Eden has pointed out that Harry and Meghan Markle forfeited their right to police protection the moment they stepped away from royal duties. They chose a life in the United States, turning their backs on the country that once supported them. Now, Eden argues, why should British taxpayers shoulder the cost of safeguarding a couple who no longer call the UK home?

Noting to the Daily Mail, Eden highlighted how Harry and Markle now want to spend more time in Britain at the expense of the taxpayers. "Harry wants to educate the children here in the UK," a source told him. Eden opined that Harry's personal motives are the driving force behind his planning to reconcile with his family and eyeing his privileges as a prince. "Harry wants his children to have the very best education. He has retained his closest friendship group of confidants from his days at school at Ludgrove and Eton. He wants that for his own children,’ he added.

Previously, Sir Richard Mottram, chairman of the Home Office committee, stated Harry should not appeal for a new risk assessment as the new state-enforced security applies only to those who live in Britain and not to the couple who are super wealthy and choose to move abroad. Bestowing them with the privileges while not serving the nation will only unleash the fury of taxpayers, said Eden. He also highlighted how the move would put the monarchy at risk and Harry, in his attempt to re-access security, is enabling Left-wing Labour MPs to run their hands with glee.

Some within the Palace’s inner circles, it seems, are quietly championing Harry and Markle’s tentative return to royal favor, shared Eden. This discreet effort, whispered about as 'Project Thaw,' seeks to gently warm the couple’s frosted ties with both the Royal Family and the British public. Influential allies, including senior government voices such as Justice Secretary David Lammy and Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, are believed to see potential in Harry’s renewed place in public life. Their subtle encouragement, laced with political admiration and longstanding sympathies, is helping guide the duke’s steps back toward home.

Cooper, in particular, is said to hold a soft spot for the duke, nurturing hopes that he and Markle might once again weave themselves into the national fabric. Her trip to Kyiv with the Duke and her proximity to Labour’s more progressive wing, backed by her fondness for Markle’s symbolic promise of change, underscore this push, opined Eden. Their support coincided with Harry’s rare reunion with King Charles at Clarence House, his first in nearly two years. With murmurs of the prince wishing to bring his family back to British soil, these backstage advocates appear eager to help tilt the narrative gently in his favor.

After getting his plea for the state-funded security rejected in May, Harry appealed again and even wrote to Shabana Mahmood, the Home Secretary, for a reevaluation. According to Eden, the Duke has gone to the extent of calling the Prime Minister to ‘step in’. Harry is going forward with his kinetic only because of the internal backing, opined the expert, which is catastrophic for the monarchy and its subjects in the long run.
