It's been five years since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior royals, yet the royal family seems unwilling to forgive them. Although Harry reunited with King Charles in September, Markle is reportedly hesitant about the royals' true intentions, and the royals feel the same about her. However, now, according to a source, Kate Middleton is ready to end the long-running rift and find a 'common ground' with Markle, keeping the door open for future communication.

Weighing in on Middleton's frosty relationship with Markle, the source revealed that although the two women have traded polite greetings, they aren't on speaking terms and haven't had a meaningful conversation. They told Star magazine that Middleton allegedly wanted 2026 to be her year of peace, in every area of her life, and she's determined to make that happen. They continued, "And if that's going to happen within her own extended family, she's [Middleton] accepted she needs to reach out and wave the white flag." According to the insider, the Princess of Wales believes that if she and Markle can reconcile, then Prince William and Harry may be able to do the same.

The source continued, "Kate does feel that William and Harry's chances of making up would be a lot greater if she and Meghan were able to find some common ground. She does not want to drag this cold war… Maybe a phone call ahead of Christmas could be arranged to at least open the door towards some sort of forgiveness." Often known as the 'peacemaker' of the royal family, the Princess has reportedly tried in the past to urge the royals to forgive the Sussexes.

While Middleton appears eager to mend fences, the Duchess of Sussex is allegedly least interested in reconnecting with the royals. Previously, royal expert Tom Quinn told The Mirror, "Harry would like a reconciliation, but supports his wife completely, and until she feels that the royal family have been sufficiently nice to her, and grovelingly apologized for the past, it's not going to happen."

Meanwhile, sources recently also claimed Middleton was concerned that Harry was again risking severing ties with his family after his September meetup with Charles. They told OK! magazine, "Kate has been working quietly to calm things down, and she's hoping Harry will come home for her favorite time of year, Christmas."

The Princess of Wales is allegedly also worried about William's patience being 'thinned to the bone' following Harry and Markle's public criticisms of the Firm, double-guessing her potential 'peacemaker' efforts. A friend of hers stressed, "She wants Harry – and particularly his children – to remain part of the family circle. She does not want to be seen as a homewrecker, but there is no love lost between her and Meghan, and Kate is reminding him that he doesn't need to walk away from where he comes from."
