Another Senior Royal to Skip Peter Phillips's Wedding — and It Has Nothing To Do With Royal Drama
Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling are all set to marry in a private ceremony on June 6 in Gloucestershire.
Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling’s much-awaited wedding is now just around the corner, with the couple set to marry in a private ceremony on June 6 in Gloucestershire. The event is expected to draw a strong guest list, with several senior members of the royal family, including King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Kate Middleton, in attendance. However, over the past few weeks, there has been growing curiosity over who may not be present for the special occasion. Recent reports suggest that Duchess Sophie is one of the few who may not be able to attend the event, as her royal responsibilities are expected to take priority due to a scheduling clash.
As reported by Woman & Home, the date of the wedding clashes with the Royal Windsor Flower Show this year, where Sophie is expected to play a key role through a project close to her heart. This time, she has helped with the design of the Plants with Purpose Garden, which aims to educate visitors about food cultivation and the vital role of healthy soil in the entire process. This special garden will have a variety of plants to attract different pollinating insects, extending beyond just bees. It will also include some personal touches inspired by Sophie’s childhood, with elements such as fruit trees and berry bushes.
Recalling her childhood days, the Duchess recently said, “As a child, I grew up around fruit gardens in Kent, and in my teens I’d go off cycling to the local farm to go and pick raspberries day after day. We had an old apple orchard in our garden, and they were the most delicious apples: tiny, but delicious.” Just days ago, the Royal Family and the Royal Windsor Flower Show also shared a collaborative Instagram post featuring Sophie and garden co-designer Alan Williams alongside Alan Titchmarsh, who serves as the Honorary President of the Royal Windsor Flower Show.
The caption of the post stated, “The Garden will highlight the importance of healthy soil and an understanding of how food is grown. Her Royal Highness dedicates much of her time to championing opportunities for young people to forge a career in the British food industry, supporting sustainable food production, and engaging everyone with where our food comes from.” While nothing has been officially confirmed about Sophie’s attendance at her nephew’s wedding yet, it’s worth noting that she is expected to be present for the garden’s official opening the day before. This can also be a hint that the schedule may have been arranged in a way that could leave her free on June 6.
Such a scenario will allow the Duchess to still take part in the family celebration, even if only for some time. Meanwhile, it was also confirmed recently that the King and Queen will be attending Derby Day at Epsom Downs on June 6, raising the possibility that they, too, may only attend part of Phillips and Sperling’s big day due to their packed schedule. Epsom's General Manager, Jim Allen, spoke of this and said, "Royal attendance has been synonymous with the meeting for generations."
