William and Kate Are Skipping the FIFA World Cup ― but There Might Be One Exception

Prince William and Kate Middleton are likely skipping the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but one specific soccer milestone could change that, says a royal expert.

Prince William is undoubtedly the biggest soccer fan in the Royal Family. His passionate displays of cheering and celebrations are often on display when he attends soccer games. Although he doesn’t need an excuse to watch soccer, watching the sport will soon become a national duty for him, as the British team plays at the FIFA World Cup this month. However, as per one royal expert, the Prince and Kate Middleton are most definitely skipping the tournament this time around ― unless the England team does one thing.

As per royal expert Emily Nash, the Prince and Princess of Wales are not likely to travel to the US for the FIFA World Cup this month. “There has been a lot of talk about this over the past few months, but no invitation has surfaced so far, so right now I doubt it will happen,” Nash told Page Six in an exclusive interview. She further added that the stress of such 'trips' might be one of the reasons why the couple won’t attend the games.

However, Nash believed only one thing would force William to head to the US, and that is if England reached the FIFA finals. “I think if England would get to the final, then I’d be very surprised if William didn’t attend. He’s always been hugely supportive of the England team. We know he has close personal friendships with a lot of (players), and he would 100 percent want to be there,” Nash said. England has reached the FIFA final only once in 1966, but the then-host nation did go on to win the World Cup. This year, with the Prince’s presence likely depending on it, the team has an added incentive to reach the finals.

Not just the Prince of Wales, Nash also talked about the Princess of Wales' first solo international work trip after her cancer remission to Reggio Emilia. Although she finished the two-day trip with flying colors, the expert believes another overseas travel might not be in the cards. “It was so good to see her back on the world stage, and I know it’s something she wants to get back to for sure. But whether it’ll be in the next few weeks or not… at the moment I can’t see it happening. But you can never rule anything out,” Nash mentioned.

The Wales kids, especially Prince George, are huge soccer fans as well. So, they would definitely be excited to watch the FIFA World Cup in person, but the question is whether they will actually get to. “I don’t know about that,” Nash said, “I think there is certainly going to be a lot of travel for William and Kate later in the year. So I think it may be a question of pacing themselves, but they’ve certainly taken the kids to football in the past.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales have never attended a FIFA World Cup match together. However, in 2006, William and Prince Harry caught the quarter-final between England and Portugal, with the former sadly losing the game.
