Prince William Clicks Selfie With a Popular Football Player — But Prince George Might Not Be Too Happy
Prince William breached royal protocol to click a selfie with a player at the FA Cup finals but he must certainly be missing his partner in crime when it comes to football.
Prince William is known to share the love his people have for soccer and has been a loyal Aston Villa fan. Recently attended the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium. The glittering night ended with Manchester City beating Chelsea FC, 1-0, to take home the victory. William awarded the trophy to the winning team's manager, Pep Guardiola, and also met the rest of the team.
Being a passionate fan of the sport, William was seen reveling in the energy of the night. He even broke royal protocol by posing for a selfie with French midfielder and Manchester City player, Rayan Cherki. He was among the many players to shake the Prince of Wales’ hand after the win that night. However, it seems he was the only one to proudly raise his iPhone for a quick selfie with the Prince.
William didn’t appear to mind it at all, and he grinned happily for the photo. However, one important royal, who also happens to be a huge football fan, was missing from not just the selfie but also the game. It was none other than Prince William’s oldest son, Prince George. And he might not be too happy about it, as the young royal had accompanied his father to most matches previously. He is also a huge Aston Villa fan like William. In fact, the father-son duo has often given fans some memorable moments of passionate cheering from the stands over the years. William most certainly would have missed his partner in crime for the FA Cup finals this year. Watch the video here!
Although William and George share a love for football, they used to stand on opposite ends when it came to their favorite teams. While William has always been an Aston Villa supporter, George used to back a team that his father had categorically told him not to. “I try not to be too biased, I said you can support anyone but Chelsea, so naturally he supports Chelsea,” William had joked during BBC’s A Berry Royal Christmas in 2019.
However, after a managerial shift in Chelsea, the father-of-three felt at ease with his son supporting the club. In 2020, he said via Hello!, “Previously, I was a bit concerned about him supporting Chelsea, but now Frank (Lampard)'s come in, I feel the culture's a bit different at Chelsea, and I'd be okay with it. I do like the values and the ethos of the clubs. I want them to look after the players and set a good example to the young fans.” However, William will be relieved now that George is supporting Aston Villa. The father-son pair was last seen in January, for the Aston Villa vs FC Salzburg match in Birmingham.
While the Prince of Wales must have enjoyed a good football match at the FA Cup finals this year, he also managed to maintain his fashion game. He had donned a navy blue blazer, matching trousers, a crisp white shirt, and a patterned, dark tie for the occasion.
