Why William and Kate's Cozy Scottish Home Could Spark a Sibling Squabble
Prince William and Princess Kate have their own cottage on the Balmoral estate called Tam-Na-Ghar—but there is one problem with it.
For Prince William and Princess Kate, summer trips to Scotland are much more than just a royal tradition. During this time, away from the crowds and cameras, the family gets to enjoy a private life in a place where they can spend quality time with their three children. However, their Scottish home may not be quite as spacious as you might imagine.
William and Kate have their own cottage on the Balmoral estate called Tam-Na-Ghar. The property is believed to have been given to William by the Queen Mother in 2002, and its secluded setting makes it an ideal spot for family holidays. But there is one small detail about the cottage that, in the future, could pose an issue for the family of five. Tam-Na-Ghar reportedly has only three bedrooms.
As per a report by Woman and Home, the three-bedroom estate is currently a great fit for William and Kate, but in the future it could lead to sibling accommodations sharing, as two of their children will inevitably have to share a room. That means Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis may eventually need to decide who gets their own room and who has to share during the family's Scottish getaways.
There is a high chance that George, as the eldest, could get a bedroom of his own, leaving Charlotte and Louis to share one. However, as the children grow and Charlotte approaches her teenage years, she will likely want a separate room, raising the question of who Louis might share with then.
Of course, there is no indication that the family views the three-bedroom layout as a problem. William could potentially renovate the property in the future to add another bedroom and comfortably accommodate all three children, but for now, the two younger kids are likely sharing a room.
William previously spoke about how close Charlotte and Louis are, particularly when it comes to their shared love of dancing. Speaking on Apple Fitness+'s Time to Walk podcast in 2021, William recalled Charlotte dancing around the kitchen while little Louis followed her and copied her every move. He described it as a "really happy moment" for the children. While the siblings clearly have plenty of fun together, that does not mean they never argue.
William joked earlier this year about Charlotte and Louis fighting over what music to listen to, revealing that he and Kate have a system where the children take turns choosing what they listen to. Perhaps the same approach could work for their bedrooms. The children may actually enjoy sharing a room during their holidays, especially when they are away from their usual routine. So while Tam-Na-Ghar may not have endless bedrooms, it still offers the Wales children something far more important: a cozy, private retreat to enjoy quality family time together.
