King Charles’ birthday celebration, Trooping the Color, brought the entire royal family together once again. While royal watchers missed the late Queen Elizabeth, Princess Charlotte paid a subtle tribute to her great-grandmother. Charlotte, 10, wore the late monarch's diamond-studded brooch, once gifted to her by her 'Gan Gan'.

For the mega event, Charlotte looked calm and poised as she color-coordinated with her mother, Kate Middleton, in an aqua blue dress. The 10-year-old paired her dress with white footwear and opted for her usual hairdo: two braids and middle parting. She also wore the diamond horseshoe brooch, which she had previously worn during the late Queen’s funeral. According to People magazine, the Princess received the accessory as a gift from her great-grandmother, which previously belonged to the Queen Mother, Elizabeth. The brooch symbolized the late Queen’s love for horses, which Charlotte has also inherited from her. The young Princess is known to take horse riding lessons, following in her Gan Gan’s footsteps.

Charlotte and the former monarch allegedly shared a close bond. Middleton, in ITV’s 2016 documentary The Queen at Ninety, revealed how the Queen was the first to visit Kensington Palace when Charlotte was born. She said, “The Queen was really thrilled that it was a little girl, and I think as soon as we came back here to Kensington, she was one of our first visitors here.” Charlotte is also known to be a stickler for royal protocol, much like her 'Gan Gan,' and is often seen at public events keeping a check on her brothers, particularly Prince Louis.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are elated to see their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, following family tradition and taking horse riding lessons. The kids began learning early. During an event to meet and honor British Olympians in London, Middleton revealed that Charlotte showed keen interest in horses when she was one. She told Paralympic Equestrian Natasha Baker how her daughter “has this passion about horses and although she doesn't echo it, she'll do her best to champion and encourage it.” Besides the late Queen and Charlotte, Princess Anne and her daughter Zara Tindall also love being on horseback. The Princess Royal also scripted history when she competed in the 1976 Olympics, becoming the first member of the royal family to do so.

During Trooping the Color this year, fans were in awe of Anne’s dedication to the Crown as she rode on horseback despite facing a head injury just last year. The Princess Royal was hit in the head by a horse and had to step back from her public duties for a while, the Daily Mail reported. Interestingly, Anne is also known to be the closest to Charlotte amongst the Wales children.
