Prince George joined his parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day on May 5. During their appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony, George was spotted warning William to focus on the flypast when he was busy chatting with Queen Camilla. The adorable moment took royal watchers back to 2016, when the late Queen Elizabeth had playfully scolded William to ‘stand up’ during Trooping the Color.
At Buckingham Palace balcony, George realized that the flypast was about to start, so he nudged his father to focus on the show. Interestingly, in 2016, William was seen crouching down on the Palace balcony to chat with George, who was a toddler at the time. This had prompted the Queen to also nudge him into maintaining decorum. As reported by Ok! magazine, the royal family is known for their strict protocol when 'on duty', which could explain why the late Queen was keen to keep her grandson in line. As per reports, she thought his behavior was disrespectful to the crowd that had gathered to watch them.
Following the Queen’s reminder, William was seen standing up to watch the RAF planes as they flew above Buckingham Palace, while George facepalmed in embarrassment. Royal watchers also compared William’s antics that day to his youngest son, Prince Louis's notorious behavior at public events. Louis has been spotted doing everything from yawning, banging his fists, mimicking his elder brother, and pestering his sister, Princess Charlotte, at various royal events. The young Prince is also known to cheekily stick out his tongue—a gesture that's become his signature move.
The Trooping the Color incident isn't the only time the late Queen lost her cool with William. According to Edinburgh Live, in a hilarious clip from his wedding day to Kate Middleton, she instructed William to stand up, and he promptly obeyed. Back in 1984, she was seen scolding a two-year-old William yet again on the Buckingham Palace balcony during Trooping the Color.
During the recent VE Day celebrations, George wasn't the only one looking out for his family. Princess Anne also had her brother, King Charles, back. Body language expert Judi James told The Mirror, “During one moment on the balcony, Princess Anne, who had been chatting to her brother in a strong display of unity during the fly-past, seemed to notice that Charles was waving to go indoors before the anthem had been played.” She added, “Placing a hand out to pat him affectionately on the back, she seemed to warn him so he could turn and get into position.” The expert also noted that Prince Louis, too, nudged George to correct his position while the national anthem played.
