Princess Charlotte Prepares for Next Sporting Outing—but Will Prince George Attend?

Princess Charlotte may be headed back to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, but Prince George could be left cheering from the sidelines.

After accompanying Prince William and Princess Kate to the 2026 Wimbledon Championships, Princess Charlotte and Prince George could attend another major summer event as the Commonwealth Games kick off on July 23. Charlotte already has a personal connection to the event, having attended the 2022 Games with her parents. Because William and Kate often take just one child to select outings, George’s appearance remains uncertain, leaving the Commonwealth Games largely associated with his sister’s previous debut.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have passed down their love for sports to their three children, with Charlotte and George accompanying William to the UEFA Euro 2024 Final. Before that, in 2022, Charlotte traveled to Birmingham without her siblings to watch swimming, gymnastics, and hockey at the Commonwealth Games. This year, the event will be held in Glasgow rather than Australia, making it easier for the Waleses to attend. Their appearance would also show support for the competing nations and Kate's patronage, SportsAid, which is working in partnership with Sport England and Commonwealth Games England.

That being said, William and Kate have often let their children enjoy solo outings without their siblings. As reported by Woman & Home, Charlotte was a no-show at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. When her parents were asked why she wasn't there, Kate reportedly responded, "It's George's treat today." By that logic, the 2022 Games could have been Charlotte's solo 'treat'; hence, if she attends this year's Games, George will likely not join her. Regardless, the 13-year-old already has a lot on his plate, as he prepares to start at Eton College this September.

Taking Charlotte to the Games would make far more sense, as she is a known gymnastics fan. William once joked that there were "a lot of cartwheels going around the house," referring to Charlotte practicing gymnastics. George, on the other hand, reportedly loves football—a sport that isn't included in the Games. The siblings even have split loyalties on the pitch, with reports suggesting they support rival clubs Aston Villa and Chelsea, respectively.

As for Charlotte’s appearance at the Birmingham Games, she revealed that gymnastics was her favorite sport after watching the competition with William and Kate. She also took part in a Team England Futures workshop, helping update a medal board and learning more about the journey of young athletes. Meanwhile, her brother has shown a strong interest in football, having attended matches such as Aston Villa vs. Nottingham Forest in 2023, Aston Villa vs. Lille in 2024, the 2024 FA Cup Final, and the UEFA Euro 2024 Final.
