Prince William Reveals He Tried to 'Move' Travis Kelce Out of His Selfie With Taylor Swift and His Kids
William admits he was unaware of the significance of his selfie with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
It was in 2024 that netizens jumped up in collective excitement to see Prince William pose for a selfie with Taylor Swift and her then-boyfriend Travis Kelce. Three different kinds of royalty converging in one frame. It was also the first time that Swift and Kelce had voluntarily shared a picture. The iconic selfie taken during the pop star's Eras Tour stop at Wembley wouldn't have taken place if the Prince of Wales could help it.

During his latest appearance on The Graham Norton Show, William spoke about the infamous selfie featuring him, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Swift, and her now-husband Kelce. The Prince joked that he was actually trying to “move” Kelce out of the photo, but that couldn't happen. "Travis kept coming back in, and I couldn't work out why he kept coming back in! I was trying to move him out so it was just me and Taylor and the children!" he said. While Kensington Palace posted a group photo without the NFL star, Swift chose to include him in her post, marking his debut on Swift’s Instagram feed. The Prince of Wales was seemingly unaware at the time of how significant the development was. "I wasn't until recently," he admitted. "I hadn't appreciated the significance, and actually – I was trying to move him out of the photo!"
William reportedly met the couple in London in May 2026, when Kelce suggested a podcast appearance. The Prince of Wales guest-starred on Kelce and his brother Jason’s podcast, The New Heights Show, which premiered in July. The trio discussed the FIFA World Cup in the US and the royal’s love for soccer.

William and Swift's bond goes way back. In 2013, during a gala at Kensington Palace, William was called up on stage to sing Livin on a Prayer, joined by Bon Jovi and Swift. The Prince of Wales still can’t believe how that performance came to be. “To this day, I still do not know what came over me. Honestly, even now I'm cringing at what happened next, and I don't understand why I gave in,” he said later via Hello!
He graciously gave the credit to Swift for encouraging him to step on the stage. “But, frankly, if Taylor Swift looks you in the eye, touches your arm, and says, 'Come with me...' I got up like a puppy and went, 'Yeah, OK, that seems like a great idea. I'll follow you,'” he added.

Despite their close bond and dropping hints about his possible presence, William did not attend Swift and Kelce’s wedding at Madison Square Garden in New York on July 4th this year.
