Prince William Tries Upping Kate Middleton's Brew Master Skills With His Latest Move

When it comes to royal duties, Prince William and Kate Middleton are a seamless team — but put a pint glass in their hands, and it's a different story entirely. Middleton has long been known for a flawless pour. William, less so. So when the Prince of Wales stepped up to the taps at the Prince of Peckham pub today, the stakes felt personal, a chance, finally, to close the gap on his wife.
William served a pint of Red Stripe, a Jamaican lager, during his impromptu stop at the Peckham bar, founded in 2017 by Clement Ogbonnaya as an inclusive venue. After Ogbonnaya's admission of not having worked behind the bar, the Prince of Wales assessed his own pour as 'not bad,' comparing it to Ogbonnaya's pint." I think that’s pretty good," the future king amusingly exclaimed after pulling a neat move, The Independent reported. William and Ogbonnya celebrated the moment by clasping hands and bumping shoulders amidst the applause of the pub crowd. "The pressure was on, I’m not going to lie. He can’t beat me, he can’t pour a better pint than me, but it wasn’t too far off," Ogbonnaya later expressed. He also acknowledged William's efforts in promoting the brand "Chatty Patty," aiming to extend its presence beyond Peckham to the entirety of London.
Prince William surprisingly made a candid confession during the visit, speaking to a group, he affirmed his love for local pubs: "I love pubs. I want to do as much as I can to support them because I love the community. We need to protect our pubs." The royal visit took place in a bustling neighborhood known as "little Lagos" for its sizable African-heritage population and status as a youth social center. After conversing with both locals and outsiders, William voiced his joy at the famed south London business, remarking, "I could stay here forever." This is not the first time he has tried to win over with his brewmaster skills.
He was famously challenged by his wife during their visit to the Bermondsey Beer Mile last month. While there, Middleton showcased her flawless brewmaster skills by winning a pint-pouring contest against a brewery founder. Despite her victories, as per Matt Wilkinson, Royal Editor at The Sun, she mentioned her limited alcohol consumption post-cancer diagnosis, stating, "Since my diagnosis, I haven't had much alcohol. It's something I have to be a lot more conscious of now." The outing, which took place on March 12, highlighted her ability to engage warmly with crowds while discussing personal lifestyle changes.
However, the question here was not whether the future king could pull a pint. It was whether he could pull one better than his missus. Based on today's evidence, the gap may finally be closing, though the Princess of Wales has yet to weigh in.
