Prince William Could Forgive Harry for Attacks on Him—Until His Brother Crossed This Line

Harry and Meghan are back in the UK, but one issue involving his wife may explain why William still struggles to move past the rift.

Prince Harry may have returned to the U.K. along with Meghan Markle and their two children, but his relationship with his brother is reportedly still sour. Despite being in the same country, the two have not been seen together and allegedly have not crossed paths in the last two years. According to one royal expert, Prince William may have a specific reason for his anger toward his estranged brother, and it is related to Princess Kate.

The issue reportedly stems from Harry’s 2023 memoir, Spare, which revealed deeply personal moments involving the royal family. While Middleton was not portrayed exclusively in a negative light, with Harry famously calling her “the sister I’d always wanted,” the book did expose some awkward moments between her and Markle. Harry went into detail about the tension between the two women, airing private disagreements for the public to read.

Royal biographer Robert Jobson has suggested that William may have been able to brush off the things Harry said about him. But when it came to Kate, the situation was reportedly different, and that was where his brother may have gone too far. He told Hello!, “I think he could take a lot of things being said about him, but he wasn't prepared to have things said about her when she's not in a position to answer back.”

Now that Harry and Markle are back in the U.K. with their children, they are physically closer to the royal family than they have been in years. However, Jobson noted that Harry’s comments about the woman who could one day be queen were not received well. When the author was asked if William could ever forgive his younger brother, he revealed, “I don't think that went down too well.”

Despite the friction, it seems unlikely that William and Kate will publicly get involved in the drama. Jobson believes the couple will choose to rise above it rather than getting pulled into a public back-and-forth with the Sussexes.

“I don’t think that, because Harry and Meghan are here making a bit of noise, that’s going to necessarily make them do anything.” He continued, “I think that they’ll probably think, well, we’ve been down this road before. It creates a circus, and we’re not going to get involved.”
