It's been a decade and a half since the Prince of Wales and Kate Middleton exchanged vows at Westminster Abbey. Since then, Prince William and Kate have consistently prioritized their household despite having a public life that consumes a lot of their time. For their fifteenth wedding anniversary, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a relaxed family photo rather than just an image of themselves. It showed their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, alongside two very special canine companions.

William and Kate have a history of using their anniversary as an opportunity to reveal unseen snapshots of their relationship. Last year's release featured a romantic Isle of Mull photograph of the two, where they appeared more loved-up than ever, following the Princess’s 2024 cancer diagnosis. On the other hand, their 2023 picture featured the duo looking playful on bicycles. The emphasis this year, however, shifted to their complete unit. In a picture taken by their trusted photographer, Matt Porteous, on a recent Cornwall vacation, the family of five is seen lying in the grass, appearing completely barefoot as they share a hearty laugh. Shared on their official Instagram account @theprinceandprincessofwales, the caption read, “Celebrating 15 years of marriage ♥️”

While the royal children caught the eyes of many, it was the presence of the family pets that truly stole the show. The Prince of Wales was snapped lounging next to Orla, their five-year-old cocker spaniel, and a second dog that is yet unnamed. The presence of this second pup confirms the expansion of the household, a move that Catherine teased in February during an engagement, saying, “We've got a little puppy, he's only eight months.” Witnessing the now one-year puppy tucked into the anniversary shot underscores the family’s appreciation for their off-duty moments at their forever home, Forest Lodge, where they are expected to mark their 15th anniversary privately alongside their children.

While the world sees a family at peace, body language expert Judi James believes that the playful, intertwined pose of the Walese children suggests that the Prince and Princess of Wales are prioritizing a sense of normalcy that defines traditional royal expectations. “The message from this pose is not that William and Kate are just celebrating their roles as parents and as husband and wife, but that they're primarily embracing and celebrating their own ability to act like children too,” she said while speaking to The Mirror. She notes that the photograph functions as a gentle pushback against outside claims that the monarchy is overly restrictive, stating, “it also seems to hold a soft message that flies in the face of claims from across the Atlantic that you need to escape the confines of royal life to ever feel free.”

As the couple looks toward a future that will one day see William ascend the throne, the relaxed ease of this anniversary portrait seems to be a deliberate blueprint for their reign. According to James, the Prince is clearly able to be a ‘big kid’ within his family, proving that their ability to share “emotions of love, joy, and playful fun” will stay unchanged even after William is King.
