Prince Harry’s Reunion Hopes With King Charles Raise One Major Question

Prince Harry could be hoping for more than just a successful sporting event when the Invictus Games return to the UK next year. While preparations are already underway for the Birmingham event, reports suggest the Duke of Sussex hopes the event could double as the backdrop for a major family moment. If things go as planned, it could mark the first public appearance between Harry and King Charles in several years.
According to reports from the Mirror, organizers of the Invictus Games are expected to invite the King to attend either the opening or closing ceremony in Birmingham next summer. He could also be invited to watch sporting events and meet competitors throughout the competition. While this might not have been a big deal a few years back, given the current family situation of the royals, their reunion is a major headturner.
If Charles accepts the invitation, it would be the first time he and Harry have appeared together publicly since Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022. Although Harry attended his father's coronation in May 2023, he did not take part in any public events and returned to California shortly after the ceremony. The reported reconciliation plan comes after Harry recently reunited with the King earlier this month at Highgrove, alongside Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Queen Camilla was also present during the family gathering, which marked the first time the King had spent time with his grandchildren in several years. While many are glad to see Harry reconcile with his family, others remain skeptical about his motives. Voicing their concern, one insider told the outlet, “Harry’s intention is twofold. He would love the King’s support at the Games, while having his father by his side would also add considerable weight to his argument for security for his family to accompany him on the trip.”
Harry is next expected to return to the UK in September for the annual WellChild Awards, a charity he has supported for 15 years. Reports suggest he has accepted an invitation from the King to stay at Buckingham Palace during that visit. Elaborating on the situation, another source added, “Next year is a big deal for Harry. He is determined that the Birmingham Games will be the best ever, and it would mean the world to him to have his father there."
A separate royal source also suggested the King “would welcome the opportunity to see his grandchildren again.” While the speculation of Charles attending the Games and staying in the Palace for his next visit is abuzz, Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the reports.
