Prince Harry Makes Bold New Move Ahead of UK Return ― and It Could Ruin Reconciliation
As Prince Harry prepares for his long-awaited UK return, an unexpected TV appearance is raising fresh questions about his reconciliation efforts.
Prince Harry's public statements have been a source of ongoing tension within the Royal Family since he stepped down as a senior working royal in 2020. The publication of his tell-all memoir Spare only increased these tensions. His revelations, which included claims about Meghan Markle's mental health and allegations of institutional racism, have significantly impacted family dynamics. This time around, as he is expected to make a highly anticipated homecoming along with his family, the Prince is making yet another move that might jeopardize his reconciliation ― appearing alongside British host James Corden.
Prince Harry will be seen on James Corden's Fox program, After Hours, with the main discussion centered on the World Cup. Corden announced the news in a recent episode while appearing alongside football legends, including Rio Ferdinand. "Prince Harry is coming on the show in a few weeks, and we'll discuss this then," he highlighted. The upcoming appearance also marks a reunion between Harry and Corden, who famously interviewed the Duke in 2021, where he talked about the 'toxic' British press as well as his decision to step down as a working royal.
This news has come as a surprise since the Duke is set to make an emotional return to the UK next month, along with Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The Sussexes are scheduled to make a series of public appearances during their five-day trip, including a visit to Birmingham Children's Hospital to commemorate the 20th anniversary of WellChild, a charity for which he serves as a patron, and to recognize its first WellChild Nurse. However, the Prince is in a dispute with the UK Home Office over security for his upcoming mid-July visit, as his request for police protection has been denied, despite it being standard procedure for his returns to Britain.
“Prince Harry’s program in the United Kingdom includes both public and private engagements across the country," a spokesperson for the Sussexes told GB News. The spokesperson further stated that safe accommodation is a component of a protective security plan, which considers that risks follow individuals, not locations. They also added that the lack of an independent Risk Management Board assessment raises concerns about the adequacy and proportionality of current security measures. Although accommodation has reportedly been offered by the King, the Duke is said to prioritize security over lodging due to worries about their safety without taxpayer-funded protection.
While the security issue remains in the air, the proposed media appearance could create problems for the Duke. Prince William reportedly has no interest in mending his relationship with Harry following the Duke's public statements about the royal family. With his UK return fast approaching, Harry's appearance on After Hours is expected to place him back in the spotlight. This raises questions over whether the interview will help or further complicate the already delicate situation surrounding his homecoming.
