Prince Harry Has a ‘Second Father’ in His ‘Chosen Family’ as Feud With King Charles Continues
In a recent interview, Harry opened up about his strained relationship with King Charles, revealing that his father refuses to speak to him.
Prince Harry’s relationship with King Charles has reportedly remained strained since his royal exit in 2020. The Duke didn’t meet his father during his recent UK visit in April for his court hearing. With Charles keeping his distance, a surprising Hollywood figure has allegedly taken Harry under his wings. Singer-actress Katharine McPhee revealed her husband, David Foster, has become ‘like a father’ to the Prince.
Foster had helped Harry and Meghan Markle find a temporary home in Canada when they stepped down as senior royals amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. As reported by People magazine, McPhee revealed, “My husband has a really, really beautiful relationship with Harry. They're like father and son.” She explained how her musician husband set the Sussexes up with their Canadian $14.1 million mansion. At the time, she explained, “David is the resource guy…He loves to help people. We just hope they end up somewhere where they feel like they can really settle down.”
The singer also spoke about her close bond with Markle, which reportedly goes back to her high school days. She shared, “She went to a school called Immaculate Heart…I did a couple of shows with her, and she was always put together and great.” The Daily Mail reports that Foster had helped the couple and their young son, Prince Archie, also secure a discreet spot for their first Christmas holiday. He told the outlet, “I felt honored that I was able to help Meghan there because I'm a Canadian and we're a commonwealth country. It's important to us, so I grew up with that kind of sentiment.”
Harry reportedly has built a ‘chosen family’ since his ties with the royal family began to fray. According to the Daily Mail, Markle’s makeup artist Daniel Martin, her friend Kadi Lee, and tennis star Serena Williams are considered ‘aunties’ and ‘uncles’ to the Sussexes’ children, Archie and Princess Lilibet. Actor Tyler Perry also played a key role in helping Harry and Markle settle in the U.S. In the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, he shared insight into his relationship with the couple. “They said, ‘Well, we would like for you to be Lili's godfather.’ I had to take a minute to take that in, and I thought I'd be honored, absolutely be honored,” Perry shared.
In a recent interview, Harry himself addressed his strained relationship with Charles. He told the BBC, “He [Charles] won’t speak to me because of this security stuff. I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the U.K.” He, however, added, “It would be nice to have that reconciliation part now. If they don’t want that, that’s entirely up to them.”
