Meghan Markle launched her new podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, on April 8. It features her in conversation with female founders who have launched their own brands. In the latest episode, Markle sat down with Kadi Lee, co-founder of Highbrow Hippie. Reflecting on their discussion, royal expert Bronte Coy believes Markle's comments were sure to ‘hit a nerve’ with Kate Middleton.
In the episode titled, Building Your Brand Brick by Brick, Markle revealed that when Lee turns up at her Montecito mansion, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet call her ‘Auntie Kadi.’ In light of the remark, Coy told The Sun, “[Meghan] calling her aunt Katie is obviously going to hit a nerve because the kids do have aunties...Aunt Catherine over in Britain, [who they don't] have any sort of relationship with.” She added, “So it would clearly hit a nerve. It was an interesting comment, I would say, and when I heard it, it was like, 'Oh, that is going to hit.'”
During the episode, Lee opened up to Markle and said, “I am just a really naturally curious person, and I was not blessed with kids. I am still holding out hope I might be a step mum…but for right now, I am just a super aunt.” In response, Markle said, “It’s our favorite when they run out to the car saying ‘Kadi.’”
Royal expert Hugo Vickers earlier also told The Sun that Archie and Lilibet might grow to ‘resent’ the relationship between the Waleses and Sussexes. Speaking on the Royal Exclusive Show, he said, “I mean, children are not stupid, they are going to realize that at some point and will probably want to have some sort of connection.” Vickers hopes that things may change in the future. He added, “'This is a new generation we are talking about in terms of William and Catherine's kids and the Sussexes. Maybe they will all forge that themselves.”
The Duchess of Sussex also took a subtle swipe at her sister-in-law during her recent appearance at the Time 100 Summit. She mentioned wanting to fly back home to watch her son lose his first baby tooth, hours after Middleton posted her son, Prince Louis, with missing front teeth. As reported by the Daily Mail, Markle said at the event, “What we are going to put out during our next launch is equally as important to me as Archie getting his first [big] tooth this week. It's about to happen, I might get back just in time for it!” She also expressed gratitude for her family’s good health onstage, which many thought was again in poor taste given Middleton and King Charles' battle with cancer.
