One Decision Could Send Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Back to Montecito, Sources Say

The Sussexes’ British dream isn’t off to a great start, but they still seem hopeful.

Prince Harry was all smiles at the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards in London, where he used his speech to reaffirm his commitment to the veterans' cause. It was his first public appearance since returning to the UK, and he told reporters it felt good to be back on British soil. The Duke of Sussex also spoke about the importance of the Invictus Games, which are due to take place in Birmingham in July 2027. The Band of the Irish Guards, whose Royal Colonel is the Princess of Wales, was on hand to greet him, a detail that has drawn attention given Harry's distance from the royal family.

Even though Harry has expressed his joy at being back in the UK with his family, the Sussexes still haven’t ruled out a possible return to Montecito, California, according to a report by the Daily Mail. This is all thanks to the ongoing controversies and drama surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, including the sudden change of school. In fact, sources reportedly believe this could happen within the next few weeks. Apparently, if the Duke and Duchess don’t secure the taxpayer-funded security that Harry has been seeking, their move back to the States is very likely. Officials have also claimed that the Royal and VIP Executive Committee’s decision is expected ‘within days’.

Beyond this, sources have made it clear that Harry is sure that RAVEC will do something. He reportedly thinks that, “He is a target not because of a lifestyle choice he made but because of who he was when he was born. He thinks that a decision will come imminently, this week or next week, and that it will be a RAVEC U-turn. The expectation is that the Home Office will try and play down and mute as much as they can to save face, but it is coming.” His friend has also explained that if he and his family fail to get security, that would mean that deeper elements are at play. Therefore, their family might be safer in the US than in the UK.

According to sources close to the Sussexes, they haven’t even started their official house-hunting process. For now, they seem to be living at a wealthy friend’s estate in the Cotswolds, and the family really seems to be enjoying it. However, according to reports, it seems like “they intend to stay in Britain until Archie and Lilibet have completed their schooling, so 13 years give or take. A serious commitment, then.”

It’s very safe to say that even though their British dream isn’t off to the greatest start, the Sussexes still have some hope that they won’t have to return to the US. This dream seems to be hinging entirely on a security review, which is completely out of their hands.
