Meghan Markle Sticks to One Rule When It Comes to Harry's Family Feud — and It Tells You Everything
A source close to the ex-royals revealed that the Duchess is very "supportive" when it comes to backing Harry as he navigates his way into the royal fold.
Prince Harry's recent trip to the UK was filled with both highs and lows. The Duke's week began with Buckingham Palace rejecting the King's generous offer to set up base at the royal residence. Followed by the news of losing millions while fighting a high-profile case against the Daily Mail. It wasn't over yet; he kept appearing solo at Invictus Games-related charity events despite the anticipated appearance of the Duchess, Meghan Markle. However, his tour ended on a positive note with an intimate moment at Highgrove. As the Sussexes have navigated their fractured ties to the monarchy since stepping back in 2020, the Duchess has quietly followed one rule when it comes to her husband's family, and insiders say it reveals more about the marriage than any public statement could.
According to PEOPLE!, Russell Myers, author of William & Catherine, highlighted that the reunion was a big moment for Markle, "What was billed as a big homecoming—not only for Harry but potentially for Meghan too," Myers said. However, he emphasized that the drama surrounding the ultimate meeting was chaotic due to Harry's fractured relationship with the monarchy.
"Turned into a nightmare. It was further evidence of the fractiousness of Harry’s relationship with the institution." According to a source close to the ex-royals, Markle remains firmly in Harry's corner, described as very 'supportive' as he works to rebuild ties with the royal fold. But when it comes to Harry's family matters specifically, a separate source says the Duchess deliberately steps back: "she always lets him lead." That same source added that Markle carried "a lot of sadness" watching the week's events play out from a distance, unable to be "by his side."
Frustration over public disputes surrounding Harry is not new, as issues with correspondence and making arrangements persist. A source asserted that the underlying problem has always remained security; resolving this would bring more certainty for his future visits. "There were U-turns and backtracks, and it will have all added to the complete exasperation of the King and his aides when dealing with Harry," Myers highlighted.
Harry faced a significant setback in court, as noted by royal author Simon Vigar. Despite receiving the adverse ruling shortly before an Invictus Games conference, he maintained composure, humorously referencing the venue's air-conditioning. Though he later criticized the verdict as a “complete and obvious whitewash,” the Duke focused on the event's true purpose, forgetting briefly about the personal pressures. "He can compartmentalize. He was there to support the people at the Invictus Games," a source reacted to Prince Harry maintaining his composure.
Hours after his inaugural Birmingham event on July 10, Prince Harry and his family attended the private meeting hosted by the King and Queen at Highgrove House. It was the first time since 2022 that Archie and Lilibet met their grandfather, marking only the third meeting between Harry and Charles since the King's 2024 cancer diagnosis. The rendezvous has remained unphotographed since the palace wanted the Sussexes "to rekindle those family ties" and make it all about "a family matter—a human matter."
