Meghan Markle Missed Out on Her Ultimate 'Prize' at King Charles Reunion, Insider Claims
Meghan Markle reportedly had bigger hopes for the Sussexes' private royal reunion, but one key thing was missing.
Prince Harry is in the UK for a five-day trip to promote the Invictus Games, which will be held in Birmingham next year. There was much speculation regarding the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, making a debut after almost four years. However, it was reported that Markle pulled out of the main event held in Birmingham yesterday at the last minute. With no signs of a royal reunion, it came as a surprise when Buckingham confirmed that the Sussexes and their kids discreetly met King Charles and Queen Camilla at their Highgrove residence in Gloucestershire, thus ending weeks of drama surrounding a possible outcome with security concerns in place. However, Markle's ultimate goal was defeated when it came to being with the monarch face-to-face.
The Duchess was allegedly planning to travel with an entourage to capture every detail of the emotional union; however, none of the news outlets got wind of her landing in the UK with the children. Thus, shooting down Markle's actual purpose of commercializing the royal family, as Rob Shuter had pointed out earlier, suggesting, "A photograph of Charles with Harry, Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet would instantly become one of the defining royal pictures of the decade."
Maintaining this argument, Shuter has now highlighted in his Naughty But Nice Substack that although the Duchess struck "gold," the moment remained unfulfilled. "The meeting was valuable, but the photograph was the prize," he quoted a source. "Meghan understands the power of imagery better than almost anyone. A single picture with the King would have reminded the world that she and Harry are still royalty. That’s branding gold."
As per reports, Markle's business and brand have been struggling to gain the kind of impact she expected while stepping down as a royal in 2020. Thus, a picture with the King and the Queen would have reinforced her image automatically. "This wasn’t about family," the source pointed out. "It was about access. Royal association remains their most valuable asset. A smiling photograph with the King would have instantly reset the narrative, reinforced their status, and reminded everyone that they still belong in the royal conversation."
Thus, if only the Sussexes could get one picture out of the meeting, it would have made all the difference, as the source put it: "The Palace knew the value of that photograph," the source claimed. “It would have been used for years as proof of reconciliation and royal endorsement. The meeting happened. The picture didn’t." Whether the absence of a photograph was intentional or simply a reflection of the meeting's private nature, the lack of any official image ensured the Highgrove reunion remained just that ― a private family moment.
