Meghan Markle, Prince William & Princess Kate Cheer On Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Engagement
Swifties all over the world were thrilled when Taylor Swift announced her engagement to Travis Kelce, sharing cute photos of the football star getting down on one knee. The popstar and her beau have been head over heels since late 2023 and got engaged on August 26. As die-hard Swifties spammed the comments section, three royals also celebrated the couple's big news. Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Meghan Markle quietly gave their seal of approval, proving even royalty can’t resist Tay Tay's charm.
Kelce and Swift announced their engagement on Instagram with the cheeky caption, "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨" referencing their professions and a custom 'TNT' bracelet Kelce had previously gifted Swift. As reported by PEOPLE, a close look under the post showed that many celebrities 'liked' the news, including the Prince and Princess of Wales's joint social media page and Markle from her personal handle, @meghan. According to Kelce's father, their dreamy proposal took place two weeks earlier in a private garden setting in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
The royals celebrating the couple, however, doesn't come as a surprise, as both the Duchess of Sussex and the Prince of Wales attended Swift's Eras tour in 2023 and 2024, belting out their hearts to her biggest hits. In 2024, William and his two eldest children, who are die-hard fans of the pop star, attended Swift's London leg of the tour. The singer met Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and William backstage, snapping a cute picture with them.
As per Town & Country magazine, on Jason and Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast, Swift later reminisced about the same, saying, "Wasn’t this the week I got to watch Jason meet the royal family?" continuing, "I knew you were serious when I was like, ‘Jason, do you wanna go meet…’" Jason added that the Waleses were "honored to be there to meet Taylor," adding, "I gotta say, Prince William was fantastic, but the highlight was Princess Charlotte. Prince George was great, too."
In 2021, William had also gushed about his undying love for Swift while recalling the moment he performed with her and singer Jon Bon Jovi at a 2013 charity event in Kensington Palace. He reminisced about the moment and said, "To this day, I still do not know what came over me. Honestly, even now I'm cringing at what happened next, and I don't understand why I gave in." He continued, "But, frankly, if Taylor Swift looks you in the eye, touches your arm, and says, ‘Come with me…’ I got up like a puppy and went, ‘Yeah, okay, that seems like a great idea. I'll follow you.’"
As for Markle, according to PEOPLE, she attended Swift's August 2023 Eras tour in Los Angeles with her friend Lucy Fraser. A source revealed that as the pop star told the excited crowd, "Let's go back to high school!" — Markle jumped up out of her chair to sing along to You Belong with Me. Prince Harry, however, was in Asia for an engagement at the time.
