Meghan Markle Faces Fresh Setback After Hollywood Comeback
Meghan's business losses have often been a topic of discussion, and now we have one more to add to the list.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s latest ambitious project seems to have failed miserably, and not even their royal titles could save it this time. Markle's business losses have often been a topic of discussion, and now we have one more to add to the list, their documentary Cookie Queens, which reportedly failed to break into the Top 10 and had a disappointing start at the US box office.
The Archewell Productions-backed film, which was released on August 7th, follows Girl Scouts as they take part in cookie season while learning about confidence, leadership, and resilience. It earned less than $340,000 from 446 cinemas during its opening weekend, and the result has been described as “pretty pitiful” by industry sources according to GB News, with the film making only around $675 per screening on average. However, the embarrassment doesn't end here.
Markle's passion project, Cookie Queens, was beaten at the box office by CatVideoFest 2026, a compilation featuring skateboarding cats and internet cat videos. The feline-focused film earned around $570,000 despite playing in just 255 cinemas, which is 191 fewer than Cookie Queens. Well, it seems like Markle and Harry will now have to think about their investments if they want to avoid further losses.
Markle tried her best to promote the film and even attended its Girl Scout camp in Ojai, California, and a special screening in Los Angeles. Speaking to PEOPLE ahead of the film’s theatrical release, Markle shared why she and Harry immediately connected with the project. “When we first saw the teaser several years ago, it was just a few minutes in length and still being put together, but it was very clear that Alysa’s vision as a director was capturing something special,” she said.
The Duchess continued, “The music, the cinematography, the honesty. It made both of us laugh out loud and also feel such emotion as parents. We knew we wanted to help uplift this project in any way we could.” Markle also added that the film is extremely close to her, as now, as a mother, she views life differently. Sharing her views, the Suits alum elaborated, “I don’t want to give anything away, but there’s a very special moment when one of the girls accomplishes something she never thought possible. I get misty-eyed every time I watch that scene. She did it! I feel so proud of her.”
Despite the disappointing box-office figures, the film’s distributor highlighted strong interest from current and former Girl Scouts. However, early numbers suggest that Cookie Queens has struggled to attract a wider cinema audience, raising fresh questions over Harry and Meghan’s ambitions in Hollywood.
