Meghan Markle Opens Up About Princess Lilibet’s First Day of Preschool in Emotional New Interview

With Princess Lilibet stepping into a new chapter of her life, Meghan Markle recently revealed that she got emotional as it invariably had her taking a trip back down memory lane. The Duchess of Sussex, in a recent event, shared a full-circle moment that unfolded on the first day of her daughter’s preschool. During the theatrical release of her latest project, Cookie Queens, Markle reflected on how the project took her back in time and made her appreciate the importance of raising confident young girls.
While speaking to PEOPLE, Markle revealed that working on the documentary took her back to her own childhood. Sharing an anecdote from Lilibet’s first day in Preschool, Markle told the outlet, "Funny enough, on Lili’s first day of pre-K, one of the moms came up to me at drop-off, and I realized we were in our troop together! It was so sweet and nostalgic."
Looking back, Markle said revisiting that world through Cookie Queens brought back "great memories" while reminding her why it is so important to encourage young girls to dream big and become future leaders. "These girls are our future leaders and amazing role models," she stressed. Markle continued, "I found this element of the film so important; showing young female entrepreneurs, girls with financial literacy, skills that will set them up for future success, and learning how to work to achieve their goals is so inspiring."
Elaborating on her experience, she told the outlet, "It was so sweet and nostalgic; to work to achieve their goals is so inspiring." Now raising two children, Prince Archie and Lilibet, the Duchess admitted the documentary carries an even deeper meaning than it would have years ago. When asked whether becoming a mother, particularly to a daughter, changed how she connected with the film, her response was immediate, "100 percent."
Markle rang in her 45th birthday on August 4, and is currently promoting Cookie Queens, a coming-of-age documentary that she and Prince Harry executive produced through Archewell Productions. The film, directed by Alysa Nahmias, follows four Girl Scouts as they navigate the challenges of cookie season while learning valuable lessons about confidence, resilience and leadership. It marks Archewell Productions' first theatrical release, arriving in cinemas on August 7.
Talking about the project, Markle added that Cookie Queens is more than just another project. It has become an emotional reminder of where she started, the values she learned as a young Girl Scout, and the legacy she now hopes to pass on to Lilibet.
