King Charles Spotted With Bloodshot Eyes at Royal Outing — Buckingham Palace Issues Statement

King Charles is still driven by duty amid his ongoing cancer treatment. The monarch is not letting any hurdle stop him from fulfilling his royal responsibilities, not even a ruptured blood vessel in his eye. Charles was recently spotted with a bloodshot eye while welcoming French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, during their state visit. As public concern over his health grew, given his history with cancer, Buckingham Palace was forced to make a statement.

Charles, who seemed to be in high spirits at the event, was joined by Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Kate Middleton in welcoming the French President and the First Lady in all their grandeur. According to GB News, the bloodshot eye was not a serious issue and did not need any treatment. A Palace spokesperson clarified that Charles' eye was red “due to a burst blood vessel that developed overnight, stressing it was unrelated to his ongoing cancer treatment and there was no cause for alarm.” The Mayo Clinic cites that a broken blood vessel in the eye, i.e., a subconjunctival hemorrhage, occurs without causing any harm to the eye. The clinic’s expert explained, “Even a strong sneeze or cough can cause a blood vessel to break in the eye. You don't need to treat it.” Rather it heals itself in a week or two's time.

This is not the first time Charles has put his inconvenience in the back seat to fulfil his royal duties. According to Hello! magazine, back in 2001, Charles appeared for a public-facing duty—the opening of the new British Galleries at the Victoria and Albert Museum—wearing an eye patch. He allegedly hurt his eye when a large amount of dust flew into it while he was sawing a tree in the garden. The then-Prince had to undergo treatment in the hospital and later wear the patch.

The monarch’s dedication to the throne and the public was also evident when he recently made his first trip to Canada despite undergoing cancer treatment. A royal aide spilled how the King is managing his illness and duties, saying, “The thing you learn about this illness [cancer] is that you just manage it. And that's what he does. Medical science has made incredible advances, and I genuinely see no difference in him.” The insider continued, “As long as you just do what the doctors say... just live your life as normal as possible, and that's exactly what he is doing.” Lauding Charles’s dedication, the source added, “It's no secret that he is still having treatment, but because he is incredibly fit, he is just dealing with it all incredibly well. As everybody knows, he is driven by duty, so he just gets on with it.” Soon after returning from Canada, for which he had a highly packed itinerary, the monarch and Camilla took a short break from royal duties to recalibrate.
