King Charles, who is known to reach out to folks fighting cancer, sent out a personal letter of support to former US President Joe Biden after his recent cancer announcement on Monday. The monarch's own diagnosis came last year, in February. Refusing to slow down, Charles has been raising awareness regarding the disease and praising help groups for consciously working for the welfare of patients and their families.
According to People magazine, Buckingham Palace confirmed that Charles personally wrote to Biden. While the content of the letter has been kept under wraps, the King penned words of encouragement stemming from his own experience fighting the illness. Charles was hospitalized initially for an enlarged prostate that led to the discovery. Although the Palace hasn't confirmed the type of cancer, many believe the King is battling prostate cancer. A royal insider, however, has claimed otherwise.
Meanwhile, Biden’s office has revealed in a statement that the 82-year-old is suffering from 'aggressive' prostate cancer. It read, “Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone. While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management. The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians,” the BBC reported.
Biden also took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to share an update on his health. Along with a picture of him sitting with his wife Jill, the former president thanked everyone for their ‘love and support.’ He wrote, “Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.” Besides Charles, several other dignitaries, including US President Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, and Barack Obama, have wished him a speedy recovery.
Earlier, Biden also addressed Charles’s cancer announcement and expressed concern for his health. The two leaders have gotten along well in their state visits. Biden was the last US President Queen Elizabeth met before her passing in 2022, and the first one Charles met after succeeding the throne. The two have connected and extended support to one another on several issues, with their personal conversations often revolving around climate change. Interestingly, Charles was recently heard telling a fellow patient how a good diet helps with the treatment. Other than the King, the late Queen, too, is reported to have battled bone cancer in her final days. Sarah Ferguson and Kate Middleton also found themselves with the same fate, but are in remission.
