Royal Aide Gives New Update on King Charles’ Cancer Treatment: ‘It's No Secret…’

King Charles, at 76, is battling an undisclosed form of cancer. The monarch rarely shares updates about his health but remains committed to fulfilling all his royal duties, even undertaking long state visits to Australia and, more recently, Canada. The Telegraph’s royal writer and correspondent Camilla Tominey, however, recently shed light on Charles’s illness and claimed it was incurable.
Tominey asserted that the sovereign may die ‘with’ cancer but not from the illness. She penned, “The talk now is that he may die ‘with’ cancer, but not ‘of’ cancer following a rigorous treatment program." She added that the planning for the King’s 80th birthday in 2028 is also ‘very tentative’ amid his health scare. Moreover, as per the expert, given his ill health, Charles may also never move into Buckingham Palace, and would instead continue living at Clarence House with Queen Camilla.
It has been more than a year since the Palace announced the King’s diagnosis after he underwent treatment for an enlarged prostate. In their statement, the Palace revealed that the monarch’s hospital visit for a benign prostate enlargement procedure led to the doctors' discovery of a separate issue. The statement read, “Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.” Charles opted to “undertake State business and official paperwork” during his initial treatment days as he took a break from his public duties.
It did not take the monarch much time to return to his duties. Following his recent visit to Canada, a royal aide gave a rare update on Charles’s health, claiming that he is leading his life ‘as normal as possible.’ The source further told Hello! magazine, “The thing you learn about this illness is that you just manage it. And that's what he does. Medical science has made incredible advances, and I genuinely see no difference in him.” As per the insider, Charles’s fitness is also helping him in his battle against the disease. They added, “It's no secret that he is still having treatment, but because he is incredibly fit, he is just dealing with it all incredibly well. As everybody knows, he is driven by duty, so he just gets on with it.”
The King’s illness has, however, led to Prince Harry making a public plea for reconciliation. In the BBC interview, Harry was vocal about the ongoing feud between him and his family and indirectly stated his father’s health struggles as the reason he wishes to reunite and mend ties. Tominey has also claimed that the father-son duo may reconcile during the Invictus Games 2027, given that the pre-decided venue is Birmingham. The expert penned, “There is an awareness that the impasse cannot continue forever, not least if it starts to reflect badly on the King.”
