King Charles Meets Guyana’s President and Samples a Special ‘Royal Welcome’ Rum
King Charles was welcomed by the President of Guyana and his family at State House during his visit.
King Charles is making his mark on his 2026 Autumn Tour, a nine-day Caribbean tour of The Bahamas, Guyana, and Antigua and Barbuda. Following the resounding success of his stay in the Bahamas, the King has arrived for the next leg of his trip to Guyana, marking 60 years of diplomatic relations between Guyana and the United Kingdom. This landmark anniversary adds a special significance to this portion of the tour, where Charles was greeted with a genuinely warm welcome as he arrived at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.

His Highness also received a warm welcome from the President of Guyana, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali. The two leaders stood for the national anthems, performed by the Guyana Defence Force Band, before the King formally inspected the Guard of Honour mounted by the Guyana Defence Force. Charles was then escorted to the State House in Georgetown, where he was received by President Ali and First Lady Arya Devi Ali ahead of a State Reception. The evening brought together representatives from across Guyanese society and featured a series of vibrant local cultural performances.
These esteemed guests were genuinely excited for an audience with Charles, but the highlight of the evening was a delightful exchange between the monarch and President Ali’s children. The elder kid welcomed him first, earning a warm smile and a word of thanks. The younger kid then very cutely added, “Good afternoon, Your Majesty!” a greeting that thoroughly charmed Charles, who laughed, patted his head, and replied, “Very cute! Thank you!” The reception concluded with a toast in honor of the 60th anniversary, where the Monarch was served traditional Guyanese rum.

In an unexpected touch, the rum was aptly named ‘Royal Welcome.’ Reports note that this was a limited-edition, ultra-aged blend, especially created in honor of King Charles. His Highness’ itinerary for the visit remains packed, focusing closely on partnership, sustainability, and the local communities shaping Guyana's bright future. His upcoming engagements will spotlight environmental protection, rainforest biodiversity, and the nation's preserved natural heritage, while celebrating the unique culture and traditions that define the country. Ultimately, the visit promises to reinforce many more years of strong, fruitful bilateral relations between the United Kingdom and Guyana.
