Kate Middleton Returns to Charity Polo Match After Two Years ― and Shares Rare PDA With Prince William
This was Kate Middleton's first appearance at the popular charity polo event since she last attended in 2023.
Over the years, Prince William and Kate Middleton have consistently supported each other at high-profile public engagements, including charity events, sporting occasions, official royal visits, and more. Their appearances together often make headlines, reflecting both their shared dedication to charitable work and the strong bond that they share. That loving equation was again on full display today as the Princess of Wales made a stylish appearance to support her husband at a charity polo event ― this time after a gap of 2 years due to her cancer treatment and recovery.
The royal couple attended the DMMI Royal Charity Polo Cup 2026, which was held at Guards Polo Club. This annual event marked William's 15th appearance in the charity polo match, reflecting his strong support for the cause. On the other hand, it was Middleton's first appearance at the event since 2023. For the occasion, she opted for an elegant sleeveless black-and-white gingham dress, pairing it with stylish sunglasses. Upon her arrival, she was accompanied by William's equerry, Squadron Leader Mike Reynolds.
After the match, Middleton joined the trophy presentation ceremony and congratulated her husband with a kiss on the cheek, sharing a sweet public moment similar to the one seen after the 2023 polo game. Speaking about showing such romantic gestures, royal etiquette expert Myka Meier told PEOPLE there are no formal rules for the royals. She said, “Senior members of the royal family would likely not be told how to interact or when they can or cannot show PDA and would be trusted to use their better judgment as to when it’s appropriate.”
Meier added, “The royals often adjust PDA to mirror the formality of the event they are attending. At a somber or more formal event, we are less likely to see PDA than at a casual event where it would be deemed more fitting.” With this, it's worth noting that Middleton has slowly resumed her royal duties, even traveling abroad for a royal trip recently. Speaking of her return, royal author Catherine Mayer said, “Kate is the closest they (royal family) have to a rockstar member these days, and she’s the one everyone wants to see. That’s a huge burden for anyone to carry, let alone someone who has had existential battles with her health.”
Meanwhile, at the charity polo event, the Princess of Wales was also joined by two other beloved members of the royal family. William's cousin, Peter Phillips, attended the match with his wife, Harriet, and her daughter, Georgina. Just a little while ago, William and Middleton were seen attending the couple's intimate wedding ceremony at All Saints Church in Kemble, a popular village in the Cotswold district of Gloucestershire, England. Several other senior royals, including King Charles and Queen Camilla, were also in attendance.
