Insider Spills on King Charles’ 'Special Agreement’ With Andrew as William Gives Him a Hard Time

King Charles is reportedly caught between his brother, Prince Andrew, and his son, Prince William. The monarch is said to be in a 'power struggle' with the Prince of Wales over their disagreement over the Duke of York’s possible return to royal duties. While Andrew has kept a low profile since the Epstein scandal, an insider has claimed that he and Charles have reached a 'compromise'. The special agreement may help appease William, who has reportedly made it clear he does not want his uncle back at public events.
Andrew resigned from public duties in 2019 and was stripped of his patronages by the late Queen Elizabeth in 2022 following his association with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. Commenting on Charles's 'special agreement', a source told the Daily Express, "He [Andrew] won’t participate in the procession. But he has been invited to the lunch and investiture. It will mark the fourth year in a row that the disgraced Duke has been banned from attending the procession." The insider was referring to the Order of the Garter procession, which saw the royal family attend a service in St. George's Chapel, take part in a parade around the grounds, and then travel back to the castle in a carriage.
The Duke of York has been a Garter Knight since 2006, but as he is no longer a senior working member, the decision was made for him to skip the grand procession. Commenting on the same, royal expert Russell Myers told The Mirror, "When the King decided after the Queen's death, he was going to be brought back into the family fold, William said absolutely not.” The expert added, “So we have this sort of interesting power struggle going on, and I imagine you know that hopefully in a long time in the future when William is King, he [Andrew] will be nowhere to be seen around the family.”
Myers's claims regarding William's scathing plans for Andrew were also echoed by royal expert, Hilary Fordwich. She believed that the Prince and the Duke had long had a ‘strained and distant relationship,’ with William holding a grudge against his ‘disgraced uncle.’ She told Fox News Digital, "Andrew’s future within the royal family is beyond bleak since Prince William is firmly opposed to any public rehabilitation with no foreseeable path back.” She added, "Once King, Prince William will ensure Andrew is completely excluded from royal life, as well as all public appearances."

Coming back to Andrew's ban from Garter Day, the Duke of York last attended the event in 2019. According to The New York Times, Charles continues to speak with him privately but seldom includes him in royal engagements. The 2025 Garter Day marks the fourth consecutive year that Andrew has been barred from participating in the ceremony, along with other recent royal events such as VE Day, Trooping the Color, and the Royal Ascot race.
