On Monday, May 5, King Charles, Queen Camilla, and the rest of the royal family celebrated the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day. As the family geared up for the special day, estranged royal Prince Harry sat down for a bombshell interview with BBC. Following the broadcast of Harry’s interview, a Palace source revealed that the King had one heartfelt wish for his family ahead of VE Day.

As reported by Hello! magazine, Charles wanted the focus to remain firmly on remembrance of the occasion, rather than renewed royal tensions. A Palace aide shared, “The King, Queen and other members of the royal family are much looking forward to all the week’s VE Day events.” They added, “They will unite with the rest of the nation and the Commonwealth in celebrating and giving thanks to the wartime generation, whose selfless devotion to duty should stand as an enduring example to us all.”

The commemorations, which began on 5 May, are set to culminate in a national service at Westminster Abbey. The monarch, who's still undergoing cancer treatment, is reportedly determined to be present at all VE Day events that will go on till May 8. BBC reports that out of respect for surviving veterans, Buckingham Palace hopes “nothing will detract or distract" from celebrating the special anniversary. The royal family was pictured on Monday watching the military procession and fly past on the Palace balcony.

Charles reportedly also made a ‘power move’ on the balcony to send a ‘timely message’ to Harry. Body language expert Judi James claimed the monarch remained bravely stoic despite the latest friction. She told The Mirror, “Royal balcony moments always show the Firm at their highest status, best, standing in a position of ultimate power as a strong family unit while looking down on the massed crowds of their subjects, all cheering wildly to show their support.” The expert opined, “This confident, stoic appearance suggested high levels of the kind of resilience that the Royal Family are always known for.”

As for Harry, the Duke in his interview, openly admitted that his father refuses to talk to him, and their relationship was frayed. He candidly told broadcaster Nada Tawfik, “Life is precious. I don't know how much longer my father has, he won't speak to me because of this security stuff. It would be nice to reconcile.” He followed that with damaging accusations that his father was behind the alleged pulling out of his security so that he and Meghan Markle couldn't leave the Firm. The Prince also claimed that his estranged family signaled to every government in the world to ‘not protect him.’
