Harry and Meghan Want Their Kids to Know The UK — and One Thing Could Make It Possible
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may soon be spending more time in England, but only if one key issue is resolved: security. A fact that has been implied by Harry in his numerous interviews. Sources say that if Harry succeeds in his legal fight to regain taxpayer-funded protection, the couple would seriously consider longer and more frequent stays in the UK — including Markle’s first visit back in years.
For Harry, the decision seems to be more practical. A source told The Times that security is the main barrier. “There will be all kinds of considerations, like the children’s school and other commitments,” the source said. “But if the security is sorted, then yes, of course, that would open up the door to come back more with his family and bring the family over more.
The source also added that Harry wants his children to understand where he grew up and to spend time in the UK. “If security is sorted, he’ll want to sit down and think about what that looks like? How should we show up?”
Any return would likely be a family affair. Another insider said it is unlikely Harry would travel to Britain with the children without Meghan. “I think she would come back with him [and the children],” the source said. “They love to do stuff as a family whenever they can. I can’t see a reason why he’d come over with the kids without her.” If that happens, it would mark Meghan’s first trip to England since stepping back from royal life.
How often the couple would be in the UK remains unclear. Sources suggest it would not mean a permanent move, but rather the freedom to visit more easily and stay longer when needed. Security concerns have limited Harry’s trips to short, tightly managed visits, and those close to him say that it has taken a personal toll. It is also uncertain whether spending more time in England would lead to any kind of reconciliation with Prince William and Kate Middleton. Relations between the brothers remain strained, and there is no indication that a return would change that dynamic. Still, the timing has raised eyebrows, particularly as the Prince and Princess of Wales have recently hired a new communications adviser with experience in crisis management.
At the same time, there are signs that the Sussexes’ ties to the UK are slowly shifting. James Holt, a key adviser to Harry and Meghan, recently moved back to London from the US. He stepped down as CEO of the Archewell Foundation, now called Archewell Philanthropies, after five years, saying he wanted to be closer to family. Holt continues to work with the couple as a senior adviser on international matters.
Holt’s move, combined with ongoing discussions about Harry’s security arrangements and talk of Meghan potentially returning for events such as the Invictus Games, points to a more flexible relationship with Britain than in recent years. While the couple remains based in California, they may no longer rule out England as a regular part of their lives.
