Charles Spencer Is ‘Very Pro-Harry’ and ‘Doesn’t Like William,’ Claims Royal Expert Ahead of Book Release
Charles Spencer is an uncle to both Prince William and Prince Harry but according to a royal expert likes only one of them.
Despite the rift between Prince William and Prince Harry, one commonality that has endured years of strife is the love for their late mother, Princess Diana. The late Princess of Wales was famous for her devotion to her two sons, and one would think her side of the family would also adore the two princes equally. However, that might not be the case, as royal expert Tom Bower claimed Diana’s younger brother, Charles Spencer, is “pro-Harry” and “doesn’t like William”.
In a recent interview with GB News, Bower tried to analyze the reason behind Spencer’s latest decision to write a book about the People’s Princess for the first time. Swan Song: Diana, My Sister is set to release next month and will offer Spencer’s perspective on the upheavals in his older sister’s life. “He's doing it because he just wants to set the record, his record straight, and also it is a fascinating story. He's got a very special angle. I mean, he's furious with King Charles, doesn't like William, very pro-Harry, awfully unhappy about the way his sister was treated, and he is a good writer,” Bower said.
Apart from the obvious bone to pick with the royal family, the Earl might also delve into other controversial situations in Diana’s life, as Bower said, “So I think it'll be, and of course furious with the BBC, how they had betrayed his sister to do the Panorama interview. So masses of gripes, masses of scores to be settled, masses of unhappiness to be created.” Spencer is already an established writer, and his 2004 book, Blenheim: Battle for Europe, was a Sunday Times best-seller. However, Bower wondered if his version of Diana’s story would be “honest”.
Bower drew comparisons between Spencer’s upcoming book and Harry’s 2023 bombshell memoir, Spare, which widely discussed the People’s Princess. “(Charles Spencer) has a story to tell. The question is, will it be the true story? Will it be an honest story? Will it be balanced, or will it be vindictive?” Bower said, “And that, of course, is the great question. How much authenticity? Because, of course, Harry's book was filled with absolute untruths and fabrications. And I just hope that Charles Spencer actually presents a balanced account of his sister's tragic life.”
In his autobiography, the Duke of Sussex wrote about the profound impact of his mother’s untimely demise on his life and also detailed how he still felt her presence. Talking about Spare and Swan Song, Bower joked, “Well, Harry's book, of course, is the most bought book, sold book in the history of non-fiction. Perhaps there's family rivalry. Charles Spencer wants to beat his nephew.” On a more serious note, he further added, “Of course, it'll be a huge sale. I want to read. I want to know what Charles Spencer's got to say. Because not only because he's got insight, but I'm sure he's got revelations.”
It is believed that last month, Harry took his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to see Diana’s grave at Althorp, the Spencer family seat. It would have been the children’s first time seeing their late grandmother’s final resting place.
