Author Reveals What Prince William Would Do After He Becomes King — Harry May Not Like It
A Royal biographer believes that the Sussexes' criticism could cost them their titles, once William is king.
Ever since Prince Harry parted ways with the royal family in 2020, his relationship with his brother Prince William has been a subject of speculation. Things don't seem to be getting any better between the siblings as Prince William is reportedly not keen on inviting his brother to his coronation. Former journalist Tom Bower has claimed in his new biography titled "Betrayal" that a guest at King Charles III's coronation told him, “William had decided that afternoon not to invite Harry to his coronation.”
Although Harry has expressed his desire to reconcile with his family, there has been little to no progress in that matter. Although the two brothers have made public appearances together after the rift, the bond that they once shared was visibly strained. They have been all but estranged for years, with their last public appearance together being in 2024 for their uncle’s memorial service. After leaving the royal family and shifting to the US, Harry and Meghan Markle have often put the monarchy in a spot through a series of tell-all content, be it the interview with Oprah Winfrey, a docuseries with Netflix, or Harry's bombshell memoir, Spare.
Bower claimed that the “criticism” could eventually cost the couple more than just a seat at William’s coronation. “Clearly, William was taking no prisoners. Once he was crowned as king, his brother might well show no mercy to him and Meghan. Insulted by all the criticism from Montecito, Harry could anticipate that the Prince and Princess of Wales’s anger about Meghan’s misuse of her royal title for profit would tip the balance,” he said via Woman and Home.
The biographer believes that William might even strip the Sussexes of their titles, saying, “William would undoubtedly rail against (Meghan’s) disloyalty. He might even strip Archie and Lilibet of their titles.” Although Archie and Lillibet didn't have royal titles at the time of their birth, they became prince and princess after their grandfather's coronation. They hold the titles as the grandchildren of the monarch, and are included in the line of succession. Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, with the former remaining fifth in line to the throne.
Although Harry hadn’t given any comment on the issue at the time, Bower claimed that seeing his uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, lose his title last October made him realise that “his own royal status was no longer invincible”. The biographer further claimed that the “unprecedented sanctions” against Mountbatten-Windsor must have shocked Harry.” Mountbatten-Windsor was stripped of his title due to his involvement with convicted s*x offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Harry and Markle had previously criticised Bower for “constructing ever more elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met.” A spokesperson to the couple stated, “Those interested in facts will look elsewhere; those seeking deranged conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him.”
