William And Harry Are Set To Be In The Same Place For The First Time In Years — And It's Not In The UK
Both brothers are expected to attend the England vs. Panama match at MetLife Stadium this summer.
This summer, Prince William is heading to the United States for the 2026 World Cup, and the visit is already generating a conversation that has very little to do with football. Both William and Prince Harry are expected to attend the England vs. Panama match at MetLife Stadium in Rutherford, New Jersey, and given how carefully the brothers have managed their distance over the years, the overlap is hard to ignore. Ever since the Sussexes stepped back from royal life, the brothers have been anything but close, which is exactly why the prospect of them sharing the same space has royal watchers quietly hoping for a reconciliation.
Sources suggest William has not entirely ruled out an encounter with Harry, though the terms, reportedly, are non-negotiable: no Meghan, no media, no leaks. Royal broadcaster Ian Pelham Turner, speaking to the Daily Express US, framed the moment in broader terms. "In this world of rapid change, he may meet the couple in a brand war between the two houses," he said — pointing to the quiet but very real competition between the Sussex and Wales camps for cultural relevance, particularly on American soil.
And that is where Kate Middleton comes in. Whether the Princess of Wales will accompany William on the trip remains unconfirmed, but Pelham Turner believes her recent solo visit to Italy was not entirely unrelated. "I personally believe Kate's trip to Italy was a trial on her fitness to assess how journeys on long trips abroad might be advisable for her," he explained.
If Middleton does make the journey, the optics would be significant. "It could be another reason to have Princess Kate along, as they would be like a populist's tsunami of front page imagery in America should it happen, leaving Harry and Meghan in the shadows," Pelham Turner noted.
William's visit is expected in June and may extend further to coincide with the 250th Anniversary of American independence, something that Turner sees as a significant diplomatic opportunity. "Looking at the tremendous success she had on that trip, William and the Royal Family may decide to create the Golden Royal approach, aka Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana, would work for William and Kate, too," he said. "Certainly entertaining the Golden Couple would be very good for President Trump, especially leading up to the midterm elections in November."
