TV Star Defends Meghan Markle Against Unfair Media Coverage: 'It Blows My Mind'
Meghan Markle’s media coverage is often more negative than that of any other royal family member.
Ever since she parted ways with the royal family, along with her husband, and spilled the tea about them, the Duchess of Sussex has been facing intense public scrutiny over her appearances, business ventures, and even during the periods of silence. When analyzed carefully, one can observe that her media coverage is often more negative than that of any other royal family member. However, a "Loose Women" panelist has now come out in support of Meghan Markle. The star, Charlene White, shed light on how the relentless attention surrounding the Duchess has been growing with each passing day.
She argued that the public’s obsession with Meghan, especially among television audiences, has gone too far and is evolving into something more toxic. At the British Diversity Awards, which was held at JW Marriott Grosvenor House London, White said, "We could do an episode that features Harry and Meghan and people will be chatting about it on socials for like weeks and weeks afterwards, and I just cannot get my head around people getting so deep and meaningful and also hateful about someone they've never met before in their life," as reported by the Daily Mail.
She added, "It blows my mind, and it's unfathomable to me. I like discussing her because I think it's important that we talk about her without the intention of trying to get clicks and trying to beat down yet another woman. I think that's really important, when for some beating her down is almost a sport." More recently, Meghan Markle drew criticism from some royal watchers, who claim that she appears to be highlighting her ties to the UK despite her very little time in the royal family, as reported by the Daily Express. For instance, one royalist slammed her and said, "She doesn't even like the Royal Family, but she'll grift off the title."
This criticism surfaced after the Duchess spoke about her fondness for a simple cup of tea, highlighting the importance of taking time to truly enjoy the moment. She said, "Start with the table: keep it considered, not crowded - a softly flickering candle, a neatly folded linen, and a curation of teas ready to steep." Her comment didn’t go down well with many Meghan-obsessed social media users. Such a toxicity isn’t directed only at Meghan, as even White has faced intense public backlash in recent years.
Speaking of the difficult situation, she said, "I've had to build an armour since it first happened in 2015, so it didn't dominate my mind, my heart, or my emotions. When it happened again last year, I was recovering from my father dying by suicide, and despite people knowing that they still went for me." She added, "I was off again recently for a week because pretending to be fine really takes a lot of energy. I'm learning that I don't have to do that every day." Before this, Meghan had found an unexpected supporter in Tom Bradby when she spoke about struggling to cope with the pressures of life in the spotlight.
