Author Reveals Where Harry Truly Stands With His Brother William 3 Years After 'Spare'
According to royal author Omid Scobie, Prince Harry remains frustrated by Prince William's alleged lack of accountability.
Once inseparable, Prince William and Prince Harry now refuse to face each other, with little hope for reconciliation anytime soon. According to royal author Omid Scobie, the feuding brothers have not exchanged pleasantries in the past three years, with Harry reportedly frustrated by his brother's lack of accountability. Scobie claims that despite the Duke's attempts to mend fences, the Prince of Wales has chosen to avoid reopening old wounds and appears unwilling to offer forgiveness for now.
In a conversation with PEOPLE, Scobie revealed just how damaged the relationship was. He said, "Harry was still waiting for that moment of accountability from his brother — an opportunity to talk about many of the grievances that have built up to this point and be able to move on from that." Noting how 'nothing has changed' since they last met in 2022, he added, "The expectations and wants and wishes of Prince Harry are exactly the same as they were then — and none of them have been met." According to him, tensions between Harry and William reached their peak 3 years ago after the Duke released his memoir, Spare, which painted the Prince and Princess of Wales in a bad light.
At that time, Scobie claimed that Harry had made 'repeated attempts' to contact his brother both directly and "through mutual friends and individuals that they both deem important in their lives." Despite his alleged efforts, William seemed least interested in having a conversation. Explaining how the ball had always been in William's court, he argued, "And he's [William] chosen not just to knock it back, but to kick it in the other direction. I think in terms of family, it takes two, and I think we have seen some effort between Harry and his father go both ways," referring to Harry and King Charles' September UK reunion.
As opposed to Charles, William has reportedly avoided speaking about difficult topics, choosing to focus instead on his duty and family. Scobie asserted, "One day, he'll [William] be the head of the royal family; he'll be the head of the Church of England. There'll be a lot of things that he stands for, or will seemingly stand for. And if he's unable to mend a fracture — for all the reasons that we know are behind it — with his brother, I think that also says something about him as a future monarch that may not work in his favor."
Similarly, royal insiders have also cautioned William against holding a grudge for his brother. Speaking to OK! magazine, sources suggested that a royal reconciliation would not just be personal but constitutional. An insider stressed that William's strength as a future monarch was not measured solely by work ethic or discipline, but by what he represented. They added, "If he [William] is perceived as unable to bridge the most personal of divides, that impression inevitably carries weight beyond the confines of the Palace."
