Resurfaced Clip of Kate and William's First Interview Together Shows Why Their Romance Has Lasted

Kate Middleton used her first joint interview with Prince William to shut down a rumor that had followed her for years — and she did it with a smile. The 2010 ITV News sit-down, conducted by journalist Tom Bradby at St. James's Palace, remains one of the most candid windows into the couple's dynamic.
Running nearly 18 minutes, it covered everything from the proposal to their brief breakup, but it was Middleton's lighthearted rumor about her teenage bedroom that gave the world its first real glimpse of their chemistry.
Bradby raised the widely circulated story that a young Middleton had pinned a photo of William to her wall as a girl. William, delighted by the idea, didn't wait for his fiancée to respond. "There wasn't just one," he interrupted with a laugh. "There was like, 10, 20," while Middleton was not having any of it. "He wishes," she replied, laughing. "No, I had the Levi's guy on my wall, not a picture of William, sorry." William, refusing it, let it slide, insisted, "It was me in Levis, honestly."
The couple’s chemistry was visible throughout. The heir apparent, the queen consort to be, had crossed paths in St. Andrews, in Scotland, spending more than a year as friends before romance took hold in 2003. By the time the interview aired, they had weathered nearly a decade together — including a split in 2007 that William too has since addressed. "To be honest, I wouldn't believe everything you read in the paper, but in that particular instance we did split up for a bit," he said. "We were both very young, it was at university, we were both finding ourselves as such and being different characters and stuff, it was very much trying to find our own way, and we were growing up, it was a bit of space and a bit of things like that, and it worked out for the better."
However, Middleton, reflecting on it, framed it as a turning point in her life. I think at the time I wasn't very happy about it, but actually it made me a stronger person; you find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn't realized. I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you are younger, and I really valued that time for me as well, although I didn't think it at the time."
