Harry and Meghan's UK Visit Branded 'Emotional Blackmail' by Royal Insiders Amid Security Battle
Many reports have swirled around Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's upcoming UK visit with the most recent one questioning the motive behind bringing Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet along.
The royal family’s complicated relationship with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is perhaps more twisted than the pretzels the latter likes to pour from a bigger bag into a smaller one. After months of speculation, the rift between the two parties finally seems to be on the mend, as Harry and Markle are reportedly visiting the UK in July with their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. A royal reunion at Balmoral is also said to be on the cards, but sources fear there might also be some ulterior motives involved, particularly about a long-drawn legal battle over automatic police protection.
At the moment, Harry’s request to receive state-funded security for himself and his family in the UK is under review. And although the Sussexes are crossing the Atlantic to mark the 100-day countdown of the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, the timing is eerily suspicious, as per the “royal circle”. Rebbeca English recently quoted a source in her Daily Mail article who claimed, “The feeling in royal circles is that this is manipulative. It seems like no coincidence this comes when they are expecting a decision from the Home Office on security. They are genuinely bewildered that anyone would think that this is the way to proceed if you want to repair relations. This feels like emotional blackmail.”
It was previously reported that King Charles has been trying to reconcile with Harry and Markle for the sake of his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, whom he hasn’t met in the past four years. Harry had also expressed his wish to fix things with his family. But a source claimed the upcoming UK visit is “more of a trap”. They said, “I don’t think this will be a reunion. It’s more of a trap. It’s a challenge. They are saying: ‘Try and ignore us when we are here with the kids’. If they don’t meet up (with Harry and Markle), then they can say: ‘We came to you and we were ignored’.”
It was previously reported that Harry would receive security only for the Invictus Games events, a claim later refuted by the Sussexes’ spokesperson. However, recent reports suggest that Charles has stepped in and offered protection to the family of four, at least temporarily. However, as Harry awaits the decision on his security request, it may not go in his favor. “The situation with it has not changed. He seems to just be trying to put a good spin on it, but as it stands, he will get a bespoke security package based on need. That was always the case (since he stepped away from being a working royal in 2020). The whole issue before was him saying that the bespoke offering is not good enough,” a source added.
In the past few months, questions have also been raised about the Sussexes’ financial situation. There were reports that the couple had run out of the inheritance money Harry had received, and their business ventures were likely not in good shape either. Given the context, a source believed the UK visit was a careful move on their part, saying, “Forcing their hand on security is another step to get back in the fold because they are broke.”
There are many reports, doubts, and speculations about the upcoming UK visit. Whether there would be a royal reunion? Whether Markle and the kids will actually accompany Harry to his home country? No question can truly be answered until actual date of the trip.
