Taylor Swift Allegedly Rejects ‘Harry and Meghan’ Wedding Formula for Her Big Day
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's upcoming wedding is bound to be a grand spectacle, yet reports suggest the pop icon is drawing a hard line when it comes to the guest list.
St. George’s Chapel had seemingly transformed into a hub of cinema, sports, and royalty during Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018. The top names in possibly every industry had descended to Windsor to attend the royal wedding. While it initially seemed that the Duke and Duchess had long-standing connections with these A-listers, critics were quick to point out that the couple may not have actually been close with their wedding guests ― a formula that Taylor Swift reportedly wants to avoid for her upcoming nuptials with Travis Kelce.
Swift and Kelce’s wedding is perhaps the most talked-about in the world right now, at par with any royal wedding. With the former’s status as one of the world’s biggest pop stars and her fiancé being an NFL icon, their nuptials will likely not be any less than a royal ceremony. However, royal journalist Rob Schuter recently revealed in his ‘Naughty but Nice’ Substack that Swift has categorically rejected Harry and Markle’s guest list plan for her wedding. An insider reportedly told him, “Taylor wants to look around the room and recognize every face. She doesn’t want people there simply because they’re famous.”
During a previous appearance on The Graham Norton Show, the singer-songwriter mentioned that she might have a large-scale wedding. However, the grandeur might not mean that just about everyone would be invited. A source said, “Taylor has no interest in turning her wedding into a power summit. She wants a celebration, not a networking event.”
Interestingly, Prince William had recently hinted that he might attend Swift’s wedding during an appearance on the Heart Breakfast radio show. He and Swift go a long way back. The duo had sung together during a gala at Kensington Palace in 2013. William had even rung in his 42nd birthday at the pop star’s Eras Show concert at Wembley, with his kids, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, also in attendance. So, if the Prince of Wales does attend Swift’s wedding, it will likely not be just for a photo op. “This isn’t about who looks impressive in photos. It’s about who has been there for Taylor and Travis in real life,” a source added.
“Taylor wants memories with friends and family. The last thing she wants is for people to wonder who was invited for publicity,” the source further mentioned. Schuter wrote in his article that, as per insiders, the Grammy award-winning singer has “closely watched celebrity weddings that seemed more focused on status than relationships. One example frequently mentioned behind the scenes is Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2018 royal wedding”. The speculation that Harry and Markle didn’t share a bond with their high-profile guests may have come during a tough time for the couple, as chatter about most of their allies switching sides has been doing the rounds ― the most recent being that the Duke of Sussex may not be invited to the FIFA World Cup this year due to his rift with soccer star David Beckham.
