Sarah Ferguson Announces Career Switch Inspired by Grandkids — and Charles Will Likely Be Thrilled

Sarah Ferguson is known for her best-selling novels and work as a philanthropist and television personality. The Duchess of York has spoken openly about her battle with breast cancer, often reminding other victims they are not alone. On August 1, Ferguson announced an exciting career change tied to her charitable work supporting children's causes. She revealed that she is now venturing into entrepreneurship with her own range of eco-friendly nappies, a decision that would earn her big laurels from her eco-crusader brother-in-law, King Charles.

Ferguson revealed that her grandchildren inspired her decision to venture into making eco-friendly nappies. She told the Daily Mail, "I've created an eco-friendly nappy. I think it's very exciting, being a grandmother, because the more grandchildren I have, the more urgency there is for compostable diapers." Her innovative nappies are called 'The Greater Good' and she has high hopes for their positive environmental impact. She added, "We have invented the first compostable diaper. There are 380,000 nappies changed a minute, so it's a really good solution." The Duchess shared that the nappies are made in Samoa.

Ferguson's exciting entrepreneurial venture would surely have the blessings of her brother-in-law, the King. After all, the monarch has long been an advocate for climate action and frequently promotes eco-friendly practices. One of his most notable initiatives is The King’s Trust, which champions sustainability, environmental protection, and climate action. He also launched The King’s Charities Foundation, comprising 19 organizations, 18 of which he personally founded. His foundation focuses on driving positive change through sustainable agriculture, conservation, and climate advocacy. He continues to play a key role in global environmental forums, urging investment in green technologies and action on the climate crisis.

Charles and Ferguson have reportedly maintained a close bond owing to both their battles with cancer. Royal expert Ephraim Hardcastle revealed that Charles specially invited Ferguson to the 2025 Royal Ascot, showing he held no hard feelings toward her despite her divorce from Prince Andrew. As reported by OK! magazine, he penned, "She was also offered a seat in the carriage procession down the course, another privilege denied her since her 1996 divorce. However, she declined, apparently to spare the feelings of her ex-husband." At the event, Charles was pictured kissing Ferguson's hand, a gesture that highlighted their enduring closeness.
As for the Duchess as a grandparent, she is grandmother to August and Ernest Brooksbank from Princess Eugenie, and Sienna and Athena Mapelli Mozzi from Princess Beatrice. She is also a step-grandmother to Beatrice’s stepson, Christopher Woolf Mapelli Mozzi, from her husband's previous relationship.
Ferguson has often spoken about her deep love for her grandkids and how much she enjoys spending time with them. As reported by HELLO!, she once revealed she loves reading bedtime stories to her grandchildren. She said, "August is such a little chap, and I'm playing trucks with him, but if he prefers to play with Barbie dolls in the future, that's fine."
