This year, the theme will be love, and will focus on community stories across the UK.

Christmas at Westminster Abbey might feel a little more Hollywood this year, and Princess Kate probably intends it to be part of the magic. Kensington Palace has confirmed that the Princess of Wales will host her fifth ‘Together at Christmas’ carol service at the Abbey on Friday, December 5. The theme, 'love in all its forms,' sets a clear tone for the night as well as her recent work on human connection and mental health. Stars like Hannah Waddingham, Dan Smith, and Chiwetel Ejiofor are expected to grace the event. The biggest addition will be 'Titanic' star Kate Winslet, who will also be a part of the guest list.

According to the Palace, the service will blend familiar carols with readings and performances that emphasize community and kindness, "combining traditional and modern elements to encompass people of all faiths or none." The world-famous Westminster Abbey choir will lead the music, while guests will hear from both the Hollywood stars and community figures from across the country. "The Service will also showcase stories of some of the incredible guests in the congregation, who are leading by example and helping to create a more connected society," the statement mentioned. Around 1,600 people are expected to attend the concert. Many of them have been selected based on their stories that explore the idea of love within families, friendships, and community life. The entire evening will be filmed for ITV1 and ITVX.

The Princess of Wales launched ‘Together at Christmas’ in 2021 to thank those who supported their neighbors during the COVID pandemic. Over time, the project has grown into a national tribute to people who help others in quiet and steady ways.

In a recent essay, the Princess spoke about an ‘epidemic of disconnection’ caused by constant digital noise and added that ‘true connection requires presence.’ This year's theme fits with that message. Nature will again inspire the decorations of the event, given Kate’s own experience of time outdoors, which helped during her cancer recovery. Before guests enter the Abbey, young musicians from Future Talent will play in honor of Katharine, Duchess of Kent, who passed away in September.

While the royal family’s Christmas plans remain somewhat unclear, given the exile of the Yorks, Kate's event surely casts a bright light on the controversies surrounding the Firm right now. Last year, the Prince and Princess of Wales attended the Westminster Abbey service with their kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Royal watchers will wait to see whether the children will make an appearance again.

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, Meghan Markle is shaping a very different festive project. Recently, the Duchess of Sussex revealed a poster announcing her upcoming Netflix Christmas special, With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. The same is said to premiere on the streaming giant on December 3, just two days before Kate’s Christmas concert. Given the timing, comparisons are inevitable.
