Princess Beatrice’s Surprising Behavior Toward Mom Sarah Still Has a Journalist Stunned — Years Later
Forget the dutiful daughter—Princess Beatrice is actually the one pulling the strings behind the scenes.
For years, the public image of Princess Beatrice has been that of a supportive daughter—often seen flanking her parents during their most turbulent chapters. But a royal journalist has exposed a far more calculated and influential side to her role behind closed doors. It’s a discovery that left many stunned—proving Beatrice is much more than just a background character in the House of York’s controversial chapters.
Speaking on The Times podcast The Royals with Roya and Kate, Royal editor and journalist Kate Mansey recalled a scheduled meeting with Sarah Ferguson to discuss a potential interview. When she went to meet the former duchess, she didn’t expect to find Beatrice acting as a strategic buffer. “It was talks about talks… So I'd gone to see Sarah Ferguson, as arranged, to talk about the possibility of doing an interview, and to my great surprise, Princess Beatrice was there,” Mansey told co-host Roya Nikkhah, further noting, “And not just that—she wanted a sit-in on the meeting too.”
The Princess wasn’t just there for moral support, but she was operating as a high-level advisor, meticulously documenting the entire meeting. “She sat, and she took notes. I thought it was fascinating how she interacted; she's super smart. She was kind of analysing everything Sarah Ferguson was saying and kind of clarifying,” Mansey recalled. As the former Duchess laid out her vision for the sit-down—discussing her charity work and her public standing—the journalist noted that Beatrice acted as a real-time filter, ‘analysing’ and ‘processing’ her mother’s words. “I was taking it all in; she's hitting me with this barrage of thoughts and ideas, and it was coming through Beatrice, to the side,” Mansey explained.
This behavior, however, has taken a sharper edge in hindsight. It directly mirrors reports from the lead-up to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s 2019 Newsnight interview, where Beatrice was reportedly involved in the preliminary talks at Buckingham Palace. This revelation highlights the princess's consistent presence behind the scenes during her family’s most critical—and sometimes catastrophic—media negotiations. The news of her influential role arrives as the York sisters face growing isolation from the Crown. Despite showcasing their loyalty to the monarchy on several occasions, the Andrew-Epstein scandal has triggered a significant royal snub.
Talking about the same UK barrister, Andrew Eborn told Sky News that the York sisters were ‘blindsided’ by reports that they are no longer welcome at royal events like Ascot. “It’s been made very, very clear they’re not going to be welcomed. They’ve been blindsided effectively… They are apparently bitterly, bitterly disappointed,” he told the outlet. As the Palace moves toward a stripped-down monarchy, the future of Beatrice and Eugenie remains uncertain, with Nikkah warning that their days of representing the institution are likely done. “I sense that won’t happen again. And it shows a sort of ruthlessness from the royal family," she said on The Times podcast.
