Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from the royal family, public speculation has been hot on their heels. And one of the most enduring beliefs about the couple is that the Duchess of Sussex is the driving force behind their joint ventures. However, a royal expert recently revealed that might not be the case anymore, especially after the pair’s trips to Australia and the UK earlier this year.

Royal expert Bronte Coy, who travelled Down Under during the Sussexes' visit earlier this year, came back with a realization that contrasted with the long-standing public opinion. “I made this point when I came back from Australia when I was there earlier this year. I found this really intriguing because I agree that everything I'd seen of them prior to that was the Meghan show,” she said via the Daily Express. “I think in the US, certainly, when this Megxit happened, she's very much been sort of the architect of what their life was going to be.”

However, Coy acknowledged that Harry was one “leading the charge” after the couple’s recent trips to Australia and the UK. “I was fascinated by the fact that when they arrived in Australia, and in this UK trip as well recently, it more felt like he was the one that was leading the charge, which surprised me,” she said. The royal expert believed that over the years, there might have been a “tonal shift” in their relationship dynamic as the Duke of Sussex discovered his position in life outside the gilded halls. “So again, this may be a tonal shift over the years, you know, with him sort of figuring out what the rest of it was,” she added.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s four-day visit to Australia was uncannily similar to an official royal tour. The couple visited hospitals, Bondi Beach, the Scar Tree Walk, and local women’s shelters. Perhaps the only difference was that their trip was reportedly privately funded.

Last month, Harry travelled to the UK for events promoting the 2027 Invictus Games. However, even before he boarded the UK-bound flight, media frenzy around the trip had already taken over the headlines, with widespread speculation that Markle and their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, would also be joining him. Although the assumption was technically correct, the trio was not seen publicly in Europe. Meanwhile, the Duke of Sussex took part in several public engagements. The Sussexes reportedly visited Princess Diana’s grave at Althorp and, after years of strife, reunited with King Charles in a private meeting at Highgrove, marking the monarch meeting his grandchildren for the first time in four years.

Next year, Birmingham will host the Invictus Games, and Harry is naturally expected to be present. Markle, who has attended every single edition of the tournament since 2018, is also expected to be there. However, their trip to the UK will likely not be as low-profile as the last one.
