Expert Claims Prince William Is 'Calling the Shots' for Some Real Change After Andrew's Arrest

According to royal expert Andrew Lownie, Prince William has been firm about completely banishing Andrew's family from the royal fold.

Among members of the royal family, Prince William reportedly holds the strictest stance toward his disgraced uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. After Mountbatten-Windsor's arrest, the Prince of Wales has allegedly been resolute about distancing his uncle's family from the royal fold, including Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Weighing in on the same, royal expert Andrew Lownie claims William is increasingly taking the lead in decisions concerning the issue, citing the York sisters' alleged exclusion from Royal Ascot as evidence.

As reported by GB News, the royal expert said on The Lownie Report Podcast that William was keen to see some real change in people's attitude toward the monarchy. He stressed, "William, I think, is calling more of the shots now. So there's definitely a change going on, and I get the sense also that there's a bit of distancing even from the Sussexes, clearly from the Waleses." To argue his point, he mentioned the Prince's alleged decision to ban the Princesses from this year's Royal Ascot. He added, "I think the decision to ban them from Ascot is interesting. The line that they're [Beatrice and Eugenie] pushing is that they were never going to go to Ascot in the first place, and it does seem odd to be so public about this distancing."

Additionally, Lownie believed that the royal family was in favor of deliberately distancing themselves from the sisters, owing to their alleged participation in covering up their parents' scandals. He argued, "I think it is a very clear indication that the royal family either knows something or suspects something, and they therefore feel the need to distance themselves from the daughters." He continued, "Now, this could be pressure from William. Charles may be changing his mind. He has been, of course, very sympathetic to them [Beatrice and Eugenie] over the last few months."

In the past, Lownie has held similar opinions on the Prince of Wales and his alleged disdain for Mountbatten-Windsor. Last October, he told Channel 4 News that William was decisively 'calling the shots' to protect King Charles from 'criticism' over his reluctance to act against his disgraced brother. "He's [William] much more ruthless than his father. I think he can see the huge reputational damage that's been done." If reports are to be believed, Charles had privately warned Mountbatten-Windsor that if he didn't surrender his titles, the Parliament would be forced to take legal action.

To add insult to injury, William has reportedly banned Mountbatten-Windsor from coming near Kate Middleton and their three children. In an article on his Substack, royal columnist Rob Shuter alleged that a source told him, "William has made a very firm decision. Andrew will never be around Catherine or the kids again. That door is completely closed." According to insiders, the Prince of Wales sees keeping his uncle at arm's length as something he simply has to do, not just for his family's peace of mind, but for the future of the monarchy.
