"There Is Definitely an Icy Feeling": Has Politics Strained Meghan Markle's Bond With David Foster?
Political differences are reportedly putting a chill on Meghan Markle and David Foster’s Hollywood friendship.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been trying to expand their circle in Hollywood ever since they moved back. In the process, Harry grew increasingly close to music producer David Foster, who became a Hollywood father figure to him. In fact, Foster and his wife, Katharine McPhee, had turned into one of Markle and Harry’s closest and oldest Hollywood friends. He helped the Sussexes settle in and learn how to do life in Hollywood. However, that dynamic seems to have changed. According to insiders speaking to Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack, the main culprit behind the shift is politics—specifically Foster’s political views, which are reportedly becoming increasingly conservative.
In fact, Foster has also been hanging out with some very unexpected political associates, which have created some major tension with Markle. Reports claim that back in May 2026, Foster and McPhee unexpectedly hosted a fundraiser at their Brentwood home for the Los Angeles mayoral candidate, Spencer Pratt, who is reportedly very conservative. Donald Trump even publicly showed support for Pratt, calling him “a big MAGA person.” The celebrated Hollywood couple apparently also sent an invite to Markle and Harry, but they actively chose not to attend because of their political beliefs.
This was followed by an awkward, viral moment that took place at Foster’s 40th anniversary foundation gala in Canada. The video seemed to show Foster speaking to Harry and posing with him while ignoring Markle and walking right past her as she attempted to reach out to congratulate him. As soon as the video made its way to social media, it sparked intense debate. One side called the moment a major and public snub, while another insisted that it was an innocent moment being misinterpreted, as the two couples have been very close for years.
While discussing this moment, an insider exclaimed, “David and Meghan have been close for years, so people noticed!” They further told Naughty But Nice, “There is definitely an icy feeling there now, and politics is part of it.” Meanwhile, another insider weighed in, adding, “Harry doesn’t seem particularly interested in politics. Meghan is much more politically engaged, while David has moved in a very different direction.” “They’re not enemies. But the warmth isn’t what it used to be,” they added, explaining the 'icy' vibe between Markle and Foster. At the end of the day, Hollywood is very observant, and people always notice when there are sudden changes in relationships. Neither the Duchess nor Foster has publicly responded to these claims yet.
