If there is one thing that all the members of the royal family can agree on, it would be their love for dogs. Most of them are proud dog parents and don’t hesitate to show their love towards their pets publicly. The late Queen Elizabeth’s corgis were so dear to her that they inadvertently became an indispensable part of her public image, and Prince William and Kate Middleton are no different.

The couple, who were already parents to a black English Cocker Spaniel called Orla, welcomed a new four-legged member, Otto, to their family last year. They haven’t stopped gushing about their beautiful Cocker Spaniels ever since. William recently revealed a peculiar habit of their pets during his visit to Cornwall this week. He said that both the dogs “chew slippers” and that “anything left on the floor is gone.”

During his visit to Cornwall, William was greeted by an adorable Cocker Spaniel, probably reminding him of his own two cuties at home, as he quite literally lit up. “Hello, you’re very sweet! I love dogs. Ours are Orla and Otto. Very similar to yours,” he said. The “very sweet” puppy’s name was Professor Lupin, and William inquired whether it was “behaving in the house.” Based on his own experience, the Prince asked, according to InStyle, “Is he chewing everything?”

Canines belonging to the Prince and Princess of Wales certainly seem to have a chewing problem, and this is not the first time that Otto has been accused of chewing items that ideally shouldn’t be chewed. During a garden party at Buckingham Palace earlier this month, Middleton revealed that the new puppy had “chewed quite a lot the other day”. She further mentioned, “You have to keep them busy. The first thing we do in the morning is check, ‘Has anyone taken Otto out?'” Her claims have been supported by her husband.

The couple had adopted Orla in 2020, and she gave birth to a litter of puppies in 2025. Otto was one of them, and even though William and Middleton had welcomed the new puppy some time back, they introduced him to the world on his first birthday earlier this month, coinciding with their 15th wedding anniversary. The Cocker Spaniel didn’t get just one but two features on the special occasion. He was also a part of their family portrait that they had released on account of their milestone anniversary. The two dogs could be seen lying down with William, Middleton, and their three kids on the grass.

As per The Telegraph, Otto “brought great joy” to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, “following a tough year” during which their mother was undergoing cancer treatment.
